I am a very strong believer in rolling the ball into the hole is very simple, Watch a guy stand over a 4 footer and miss it by 3 feet long then just as simple as pie reach over and back hand tap it right in like nothing, never thinking, lining up practice stroking or anything, just reach over and knock it right in, So taking that to another level I putt with every club in my bag, In fact if any one wants to come to Oregon I bet ya a dollar I can kick the ball in with my foot and beat ya ina putting contest, I putt with drivers, Fairway woods, putters and wedges, The back of a 7 iron left handed is very good to use too, I will never ever let voodoo get into my putting game, its to damn simple stop thinking bout it and start knocking balls in the hole, Of course I am human and I miss aim but I think I allways put a solid stroke on the ball hitting it exactly where I want, I just missed read the putt is all, Your thoughts??

I believe there have been advancements in putters, but when it comes down to it, it truly is who's hands are holding the putter that determines whether it ends up in the cup.

I believe anyone using a black odyssey or a redwood and can sink a 15 foot putt can make the same with this bad boy:

Like everything else in golf though, mental game > physical. If having a $300 scotty makes you believe you can putt better than a used 15 yo putter, you will.

If you can putt, you can putt with anything.

I don't think there's anything more absurd than a $300 putter. $300 driver? Sure. A big long swing has room for all kinds of errors, and something that can somehow offset spin/gear effect, have the proper shaft flex, etc..., than can help you. But, a $300 driver won't put your shank in the fairway. It'll put the slight mishit/push in the fairway, and maybe a few yards farther.

Similarly, if you pull putts, consistently aim wrong, etc..., no putter will cure your ills. However, if you're a 1 or 2, and you just can't seem to find the cup more often, just finding lips, then - yes - maybe a slightly different shaft style/offset or putter weight will help. I still can't see why that would need to cost you three bills, though.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

I am not 100% on these figures but the average american h/c has gone out .3 in the past 30 years think of that and you realize the use of a $300 putter

one thing about going the extra mile there,s never a lot of traffic

Do you play competitive golf and how do you do (school, local golf association, men's club, etc)?

Do you play for more than a dollar? Do you test your nerves? When was the last time you made (or missed) a putt that meant something? Just curious.

Yes i do play competitive golf, I have a monday money game I like to get into at least once a month maybe twice, I play in several leagues and then Pro ams, this year I think I will play in my states amatuer tournement also.

Yes I do have putts that test my mettle and I make a few and I miss a few. The point I was trying to make is that putting is nothing more than rolling a ball, I try to keep is simple and umcomplicated, watch a kid do it some time, He/She will not even worry bout a thing, just roll it along the ground, But I see lots of folks stress over short simple putts, or fail to make a decent lag putt to get within tap in range for the second, to them putting is voodoo, The are completly at the mercy of there mind, and they will always outhink themselves and make poor putts.

Poo,

Did you leave any putts short this past week?
Any 3 putts?
Any lags leaving you with more than a tap in?

Just wondering.

I had an interesting 3-putt.

On #14 Saturday, I was way over the green in two (a little too much club), I pitched to about 12 feet, missed the putt to about 1 foot left of the hole, walked up, lined up, stroked the putt straight towards the hole, and missed ! There was definetely some mystical voo-doo controlling that ball. It snapped left immediately.

I thought about it after the round. The greens had a very light dusting of sand. I think there may have been a trail of sand around my ball and a little on the clubface. At impact, maybe a few grains got together and said, hey, let's deflect this ball left.

This putt occurred during my lowest round ever (74). I guess it could have been a 73...oh well!

Play for more than a dollar?  You go dude.  Keep it simple.  Line and speed.  Roll it in the hole.  Give the ball a chance to go in.  A miss-read is far from putting poorly.  I can't count how many times I have had a 10 or 12 foot putt on the last hole of the day for $1000.  I make more than I miss.  It boosts my confidence when I walk up on the green and I smell "FEAR!!!" in the air.

Nevers are nothing, i have played both competitive and recreational golf before. I never had nerves over a putt, the reason i just play the game. I don't care if its a match or not, i am out there, just me and the course. Those who start shaking in there boots at the sight of a 3 footer to win a hole, your care to much. Of course i love the competition of it, i love sinking that 7 foot birdie to lock out a win, oh so sweet. But i can't beat the person i am playing if i can't play the course which is in front of me. If the other person implodes, shoots really bad, it happens, but i don't let that bother me or change how i play. I don't let up, i play the same type of game i have been playing for 10+ years. I know it well, and i know how to score with it. Honest man, just take yourself out of the equation.

About putters, i like sub-100, like that guy said, you can putt with any club in the bag. Done it before when i broke my putter, finished the round with probably 2 extra strokes than i would normally putt with.
