Davison Michigan......I was born in Flint 75 years ago. My dad was an engineer for GM on Davison road. I caddied at a fancy country club when I was 12-13 YO. It was like “Caddie Shack”. When the Buick Open came to town I was given the week off. Their bags were bigger than me. LOL

small world.   I too was born in Flint at St. Joseph Hospital (rip).  The GM on Davison Rd was AC Sparkplug.   I hired in there in 1976.   The country club you mentioned is Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc where the Champion Tour plays the Ally Challenge.   sadly, AC Sparkplug no longer exists.

My Dad was a supervisor at the GM/Chevrolet plant in St. Louis... he used to fly to Flint for meetings.

I practiced again today with the 6-7 irons. I had a head cover next to the ball. I kept hitting the head cover. I hit my 5H without any problems. I also took a Titleist AP1 from the pro shop and hit that much better. My Pings are a soft R graphite shaft. The Titleist was a steel R flex. My 5H is a senior flex graphite and I hit that consistently a straight 110 yards.

I really don’t know what to do other than start fishing more. I have spent 9 hours on the range trying to correct this without any improvement. I have thrown money away on lessons over the last few years without any improvement. I’ve watched video after video without any improvement.

I used to be pretty consistent at shooting 85-90, now it’s 100-110. It is not my short game.

If you have access to a golf shop that has a good selection of used clubs and hitting bays, I would try some graphite senior irons.  Take one of your Ping irons to compare.  Callaway Big Bertha, Cleveland HiBore or search the internet for whatever has good reviews.  Just go hit some irons.  It can’t be that tough.  Depending on what you want to invest, you can get fit and go new.  You only need 6-PW/GW.

Diablo Edge hybrids have a D0 swing weight, so do standard Ping G15 irons.  My swag is that your Pings are off enough to cause you to take it outside your address.

This does take you back to your original question.

I was born 33 years before you at the same hospital. My dad was an electronic engineer at AC Spark Plug on Davison Road. He was transferred to Wisconsin when GM started designing guidance systems for the government.

My brother and I caddied at that golf club in the summer. I remember Wednesday’s as being Doctors day (big tips).

As for golf clubs, I’m thinking that maybe the R-Soft flex in the G15 irons may be causing it to fly off line? I never have been able to hit them like my i3’s I had. Maybe I’ll try to hit a standard regular steel shaft? Right now I am too sore to swing a club.
