Well, I was playing with some good friends this afternoon but we got rained out after 11.

Does anyone know the procedure to use the front 9 for my handicap or is it just gone (I was playing halfway decent, shot a 50 after a pair of opening triples). I am keeping track of it myself with a spreadsheet.

One funny/cool thing that happened was my buddy Steve had an eagle on a short par 4, knocked a wedge in the hole from about 100 yards out. He is really a pretty bad player (probably averages around 120 if he counted all his strokes). Even with that he shot 54 on the front and he took at least 1 mulligan. On that hole the group had 2 pars and an eagle and I'm the best player at about 26 handicap. Crazy game!

If you are using a webbased Handicap tracker, you can choose an option to only track 9 holes.

I think you need 13 holes to post an 18-hole score.

If you don't want to use a spreadsheet, there are some programs that can track this for you. www.digitaldivot.com is somewhat popular. If you're willing to pay a few bucks (and get more features in the process) there's Scorecard for both Windows and Mac.

Like Shindig mentions, you can post an official 18 hole score by playing a minimum of 13 holes. You'd give yourself net par for the holes you don't complete. The system I use, Southern California PGA, does offer a nine-hole handicap too. Maybe your section does?

Check with the course to see if it has a 9 hole rating. My home course does and the handicap system automatically stores and combines separate 9 hole scores to create "Combined" 18 hole scores used for calculating handicaps. We are Washington State Golf Association using GHIN.

Below is an excerpt from my last 20 holes. You can see on 10/26/07 where the system combined two nine hole scores by the "C" notation.
