Is there a thing  as a "dead headed" driver? About a  year ago I bought a new C***a Max offset driver 11.5* senior shaft off a widely used buy/sell website figuring that with all the glowing reviews it would be a miracle cure for my slice and provide more distance off the tee @ 64 years old.  Sorely disappointed in the club.  Maybe 150 yards if I'm lucky with no better slice correction.  The club head is unresponsive and feels like a chunk of rubber on hits.  I checked the serial number on the shaft on the clubmaker's website and it says it is a legit club.  Just wondering if there could be a defect in the club head, a counterfeit, wrong shaft, or operator error. My SS is in the high 70s/low 80s. I'm fairly consistent at ~200 yards straight with my old TM Burner Superfast 15* 3 wood with the M shaft.  I guess the driver will go back in the basement.  Any driver suggestions or just play my 3 wood/7 iron/PW game?

Go on eBay and get the TM Burner Superfast driver to match your 3 wood.  It can be a beast!

Were you fit for the senior shaft?

The reason I ask is that Cobra Max is a super light weight driver. With too soft of a shaft it will likely be hard to control. You'll have to "time" it's whip through the hitting zone. I'm no Alfred Einstein, but I'll bet you'd hit a stiffer shaft with less fade, read that as more distance.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Cobra Max. I do, however, really like the F9. But that's off-topic. Another thing. You should get fit for a driver. Until you do, at you're swing speed, it's not a surprise you hit a 3-wood further than a driver.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • Day 2 (20 Jan 26) - Similar work as yesterday - started with lead hand solo drills with the 50°, followed by series of pitches and chips utilizing full setup.
    • Hey, thanks for the feedback. I do lift weights but I’m also adding yoga or Pilates for mobility and flexibility to my routine.
    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
