Happy Birthday to all my fellow Marines!  The only U.S. military service founded in a tavern, 244 years ago today.

If you happen to bump into a Marine, past or present, please take a minute to shake his/her hand and wish them a happy birthday.

Happy Birthday my friend! Thank you for giving me the freedom to take a metal stick and destroy an otherwise beautiful piece of land, to endanger people with a round projectile at alarming angles and velocity. I couldn’t ask for more! But yeah, thanks brother! 🇺🇸

    • This makes sense to me.  It simply assumes your 2nd 9 would be roughly average (aka "expected differential").  I doubt this will result in any significant swing in HCP, it would be similar to golfing a good 9 this week and an average 9 next week and combining those.  The main difference is the HCP gets updated faster.
    • Exactly - if I might draw a parallel. In general, the biggest difference between different levels of ability is long game, not short game. But that doesn't mean an individual can't be behind more on short game than long game. Or even potentially better at the long game, but worse overall because their short game is terrible.
    • This is something close to what I would have expected.  In the example, a 14.0 Index shoots a Differential of 7.2 for the first 9.  They add the "expected differential" of 8.5 to come up with a 18-hole differential of 15.7.  Take that 8.5 "expected" differential, double it for 18 holes, we come up with a Differential of 17, or about 3 higher than the player's HI.  That's pretty close to the average score for a typical mid-handicap player, 3 over par.
    • I've never played this course but from the article to me it seems people did want to play it so I am guessing simply the sale of land is more profitable than keeping the course open.  Any one here play this course?  It reads like it went down hill the last couple of years and given the resurgence of golf after the pandemic I would expect it had traffic but not reinvesting into the course with expectation of selling. An upcoming auction will determine the fate of this once-proud Ohio golf club "I know there are people who want it to remain a golf course," said a realtor. And it still could be.
    • He’s hoping to play once a month in 2024: What's next for Tiger Woods after Hero World Challenge - PGA TOUR Tiger Woods didn’t contend at the Hero World Challenge, finishing well off the pace at even-par 288. But... Every completed tournament without a WD is positive, though it remains to be seen if that’s 36 or 72 holes.
