Part of my question is for saving some $$. I always loved the clean looks of Mizuno MP57 irons. I get it, they are 12 years old. Yet, would the technology in their new irons make that much of a difference playing them vs the new irons? I would love to find a set and fit them for me with new shafts.

You’d probably see a difference comparing MP57’s with the JPX series. But I think if you’re going with fitting and new shafts you’d be due with the 57’s. As long as the heads are in good shape go with the 57’s if you like them.

Yeah, I don’t know how many advancements are made in an MP-57.  It’s basically a chunk of metal.  If that’s what u like, go for it.

It seems the advancements are more with players distance irons and game improvement irons where a lot has happened in 12 years.

This.

For me it doesn't make sense to get fit into a head that you have preselected (especially not current). I'd look for a set of 57s that already have shaft characteristics that you have found to work. You'd save so much money by doing this.
