What can you do to still challenge your back and improve even your scapular mobility and stability?

I recommend the book called Foundation: Redefining your Core. It has a good selection of body weight exercises for the back.

Excellent recommendation. I have Goodman's DVD set for Foundation training - it is part of my daily morning routine. Will also do the basic move on the Golf Course if I experience any tightness. Foundation training is excellent for the posterior chain and improving your hip hinge. For anybody wondering what we are talking about check out this video:
