Hello,

I'm a beginner trying to narrow down some options. My lowest iron is a 6, and I need something for longer shots.. is a wood or a hybrid a better options to replace longer irons? The head size and lofts seem about the same to me, so I don't understand what the difference is?

Go with the hybrid. My longest iron is a 6 as well, but I have 4 and 5 hybrids to replace the 4 and 5 irons, which I would recommend to anyone. I found the hybrids are a lot easier to hit than the respective irons. You could do woods as well, but there would be a larger yardage gap that you would have to fill eventually. If you go with woods, try for a 7 and 9 wood.
