I've only been seeing the 2007 V1 and V1x in stores. Are they releasing a new ball for this year?

If not, I think the Tour iX by Callaway is the ball of 2008. It's 4 piece and just ridiculously awesome.

they came out with the 2007 model in the fall so i think you are going to have to wait till the fall of 2009 to see a new pro v1. that is if tieteliest is going to stick to the new ball every two year format that they have

lame. i'll stick with my Tour iX then because it's the most innovative ball on the market IMO.

Correction: spring, 2009, most likely.

Titleist was the first company to come out with a new tour ball at the end of last year. I don't think they really have a need to make a new ball every 6 months. The others just didn't come out with the new stuff until this year.

Exactly. the fact that Callaway has come with out a new ball now makes me want to use their Tour iX since it's, in my opinion, the most innovative ball currently on the market.

Unless something better comes out, i'm sticking with that. Good for Callaway for taking advantage, coming out with a new ball in the SPRING instead of the Autumn.

How does the IX compare to the Pro V---I call the Pro V1's Butter Balls-they are the best feel ball ever made but man they scuff like theres no tomorrow. Titelist needs to develop a new por-v1 thats just as soft but more durable

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

The iX is similar to the V1 but in my usage, it's a bit longer off the tee and off the irons. It's not as soft but it's pretty damn snuggly. Check it out. It's a 4 piece ball, the technology is sick.

Ok i will--i currently play the bridgestone b330. What's this new Hot Bite ball i keep hearing about. It got a gold medal in golfdigest hotlist rankings.

The Hot Bite is the newer version of the HX Hot. It's a slightly better middle-of-the-road ball.

I actually use the HX Pearl (the supposed "women's" ball) in bad conditions because it's super soft and the distance on it isn't that bad but the Tour iX is the way to go for overall performance.

Just because it's the latest doesn't mean it's the most innovative. Perhaps the 2007 Pro V1 line was three years ahead of anyone else. Great - now it's just two years ahead. Or one. Or dead even...

All of these golf balls have been basically the same since the initial Pro V1 came out. If I could swap out your current ball with a 2001 Pro V1 (without you knowing), you'd likely not even notice. Ball technology has not made significant leaps and bounds in the past six years, let alone the past ONE year.

The Pro V1/V1x came out in the spring. And time of year doesn't mean anything except this: balls usually come out in the spring because players like to use their off-season to get used to the new ball (PGA Tour players, I would argue, are about the only people who can tell the difference between a single-generation difference in golf balls).

No, the HX Hot is still around, but the HX Hot Bite is just the softer version, think about it like this, HX Hot = Titleist NXT Extreme and HX Hot Bite = Titleist NXT Tour, the Hot and Hot Bite are counterparts.

Here's what I play:

Agreed. I don't even use them very often because I'll go through three or four a round, but the cheap, nasty solid-as-a-rock Pinnacles, Slazenger's, and Rock Flite's last all day.

i didn't mean to come off argumentative but i'd like Titleist to come out with a 4-piece, that's all.

Yea i agree. I think the 4 piece would be excellent for more distance. I think they should make the new Pro-V1 a 4 peice ball--because with that center core --the ball will definately travel further

Exactly again.

I feel like that with Callaway's Tour iX & Nike's new 2008 Platinum, they've got a nice little edge on the ball market right now since they're the ones making 4 pieces while everyone else is sticking with last year's technology.

Golfers, or at least the ones i know, like to upgrade as often as they can and this season, I think Titleist, though they make the industry standard as far as balls go, will be missing out on a market that Callaway & Nike will be sharing.

Exactly again.

Yea i agree Titleist needs to improve the cover of the ball and the distance of the Pro V1. Other balls such as the IX One Platinum Bridgestone B330 and the Wilson ZIP are hard to tell from a Pro-V1 anymore.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
