I play with the eye 2's which were released back in 83. Still to this day--they are the most forgiving irons ive ever hit in my life. I dont know how they did it but...im just at a loss of words.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

None of the above. I play 4 sets:

Ping Eye 2
TourStage z101
Srixon i-701
MacGregor PCB Tour

I like the three forged sets better, but I just have a soft spot for the Eye 2s.

All 4 sets are in complete bags, I just pick a set and go.

I just cant get over how forgiving they are man. Theyre legendary and i think every golfer should at least try them out before they buy a set of irons.

I'm playing the I5's right now and they are a nice combination of forgiveness and playablility.

I'm playing the r7s. They've earned the highest ratings from Golf Digest's Hot List for the last two years, and they are extremely easy to hit. The only bad thing is that the 3 iron is 20 degrees and the 4 iron is 22 degrees. That's why you can see that I don't carry the 3 iron. Other than that, excellent clubs! Give them a shot!

Good luck,
Ryan

Ive got a set of Cleveland irons. Im looking to upgrade as well. I dont really know what is what. I know what ive played... I was hoping to find some input on ben hogan irons, i played with a demo set last fall and thought they were awesome but i cant seem to get an honest review of them. So I was hoping to find some answers here.

I love my Cleveland CG2's, there more of a players iron though i guess. The X20s i had before that were too chunky feeling and felt like i got no feedback from them.

I play some Titleist 735's that I got about 3-4 weeks ago, and I love them a lot. I world of difference compared to my old callaway clones.

Been playing the Callaway X-14 pro model since they first came out.

This has been my second set of Callaway irons.

I love these due to clean set up...no offset.....very forgiving...long irons hit like champs.........the stepless steel shafts are a perfect fit for me, I lucked out. Nice medium ball flight that is consistent and holds up in the wind just fine.

Of the choices you listed, they are the most like the X20 pros which is what I'd get if something happened to mine.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
