I’ve just had Nippon modus 3 130x put in my irons and had them soft stepped. Love them so far. I’m looking at putting the 120x in my wedges and was wondering if people would go for the wedge, 9 or 8 iron shaft in 120x for the wedges? Thanks

What prompted those shafts in the irons? A fitting?

I play fairly different shafts in my wedges, and it depends heavily on how you use your wedges as well as your playing characteristics.

I don't think you'd be far off with your idea, but I'd probably look at the 9-iron shaft only, as getting into the 8 with the reduction in weight (and likely a bit of flex) will probably be too much with the double soft stepping.

@Adam C can tell you a bit more.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually fitted into kbs c taper 130x but I just did like like the feel of them at all. I’ve been testing the modus 130x for a while. Just much preferred the feel and liked the flight. I’ve heard the 120x plays fairly soft anyway so maybe just stick either to the wedge or 9 iron shaft in all my wedges? Thanks

Also I would say I hit fairly full shots with my 50 degree but hardly ever got full shots with my 54 and 58.

Is there a reason you don't want to just run the 130 through the wedges as well either in the x or drop into s? General rule is get the wedges slightly heavier than the irons or keep them the same. Don't usually see many people go lighter, at least not by choice.

If you're worried about the flex, you might want to just look at DG S400s. I know it boring, but there's a reason 95% of tour guys use them. The ascending weight would still match up and they will be a little softer than the 130x for better touch and feel.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve just always played a slightly lighter shaft in my wedges and made them up to a D5 swing weight. Just what I’m used to I suppose. I was mainly thinking about the 120x in the wedges because I seem to get a slightly lower flight with them which I like. Thanks

Might also consider the 125. It's the lowest launch of the bunch if that's what you like. The 130 is usually considered the highest launch by most people. It's why Sergio played them for so long.

I would consider that a classic wedge shaft in specs. Probably in-between the 130 and 125 in terms of feel.
