Any advice on good public courses to play in the Denver area? My brother and his family moved to Castle Rock (about 30 miles south of Denver and north of Colorado Springs I'm told) and we're going to visit them in late June and early July. Looking for some good tracks to play that would be under $100 to play. Any help would be appreciated.

My wife is from Denver and I play every time we go out for a visit. The Denver metro area has lots of excellent golf in a wide range of prices. Most of the courses that I've played there are North, East and West of town. I haven't played South of town (where you are) except to play the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs which is great, but expensive. If you are willing to travel these are my favorites:

Fossil Trace
Murphy Creek
Green Valley Ranch
Hyland Hills - Gold
Riverdale - Dunes

The top rated courses near Castel Rock are Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, The Ridge at Castle Pines, Bear dance and Red Hawk Ridge. I haven't played these but they are close to Castle Rock and I've read a lot of good things about these courses.

Wellshire is a Denver Muni course on the South side of town. It is an okay track (an Old Donald Ross design) and pretty inexpensive. Not in my top 10, but a good bargain

Golf around Castle Rock is very good for the money. Red Hawk ridge is a very good track and if your family happens to be residents it's really cheap. Lone Tree just west of I-25 on Lincoln is a good track, and Saddle Rock that is east of I 25 on Arapahoe road is also a very good track.

Pine Creek is just north of Colorado Springs, and is also an excellent choice. Website: Pine Creek

Fox Hollow in Lakewood is another good one in the Denver Metro area. My home course is Foothills Golf Course... fees are $49 with cart or $35 walking. Website: Foothills Golf Course

Thanks for the links Rick. They both look good. I can't believe the quality of golf courses for the prices listed from all the info I've gotten from you guys. I'm in British Columbia and we have very few municipal courses. Makes me jealous of you guys. Keep them coming. I'll be there for 9 days, so I may have to break it to my wife that I'll be playing 36 a day down there to get in all the courses

I recommend Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton. Also south of Denver.

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
