Going in next week for  a right hip joint replacement.  It's bone on bone and has been giving me a lot of pain all winter.  I have surgery April 6th.  Doctor says he thinks I can play golf in a month.  Has anyone had hip joint replacement? I'm hoping he is right.. First week of May my league starts.  A month sounds a little early.  I'm 69 and in good shape.  Exercised daily at the Y until 2 months ago.  Pain was to much at that time.

I had a full hip replacement in Feb 2019.

my doctor wanted 90 days.  Putting or short chips were OK after 4-6 weeks but no full swings.

i understand the pain, in Oct. 2018 I could not swing well enough to clear a small pond on a par-3 with my driver and getting out of a car was hard.

@Larrh7, I’d agree with @StuM; certainly poss at one month, but smarter to wait til 3 months before full, uninhibited swings. If it’s a posterior approach, the capsule is at risk for allowing the hip to dislocate for quite some time;  I’ve seen hips dislocate a year out from surgery…but the fact it’s your right hip is far better than your left (assuming you play right-handed). If it’s an anterior approach, less worries. Either way, hopefully, your hip is for the rest of your life, let it heal…a few months off from golf will make you all the more hungry :-)

I’d have you work on chipping & putting for 6-8 weeks before getting too eager. Just my two cents…

Thanks for the reply. I'll see how I feel and follow doctors advice.  If I do get out in 5 or 6 weeks I'll just take it easy.  Should be able to start Chipping and putting in 3-4 weeks I've been told by guys I know that have had it.

So how's it going? I've been dormant on this forum for a while, but I'm a few days out from right THR and wondering about your experience so far.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
