It seems like when talking about custom putters, golfers usually bring out these two names.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each maker in terms of putter functionality, design, performance etc?

What do you think if Bettinardi moves to a company like PING, which already is well known for great putters, instead of staying at Mizuno?

I think that's basically a pointless question. It varies so much between every putter, and their careers are long and have countless... whatever.

Bob lacks the marketing schmaltz that Scotty's got. Aside from that, they both care about their crafts and do tremendous work.

I don't think he'll do that. I think he likes what he's doing.

Ping isn't the type to switch gears and start offering "named" designer items, if you know what I mean. Besides, he's already with a company "known" for great putters: Bob Bettinardi. Titleist wasn't "known" for "great putters" before Scotty joined. Now Mizuno is "known" for great putters because Bob's joined them. And Ping's popularity in the putter department isn't nearly as high as you seem to think. They've had a lot of duds lately.

I've got a bunch of both, 7 Betts, 55 Scottys, 10 TP mills and a bunch of others. The fact of the matter is I "play" with and old Bett BB8 or a TP Mills tig welded professional. Scotty is a master marketer that everyone loves and is willing to pay big bucks for. Including me, but if you want to get a a hand made or a tour putter for less than $1500 go with TPM or Bett and pay about $300 - $500. Quality is terriffic.

I guess what I was trying to ask is SC is known for milled face, where as BB has honeycomb face. I wanted to find out what the difference is between these two designs.

I don't think he'll do that. I think he likes what he's doing.

I am not saying he will move to another company and not necessarily PING. I am just wondering if he would think about moving to any other company who could market his products better and if they offered a better deal. It can be Odyssey, Taylormade whatever brand. I am just curious because when people talk Mizuno they talk about their irons but not their putters. When Titleist is mentioned they talk about irons, wedges and putters...

Does anyone happen to know why BB chose Mizuno? I am sure SC is very well settled at Titleist.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
