i've been hitting some cold golf balls that i find out on the course that have been frozen overnight as we're still getting frosts here and some have split in half when struck. my question is, i know a damaged ball can be replaced but do i to replace the half of the ball that travels the farthest or the shortest?

Rule 5-3: Ball Unfit for Play

If a ball breaks into pieces as a result of a stroke, the stroke is canceled and the player must play a ball, without penalty, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was played. http://www.usga.org/playing/rules/bo...es/rule05.html Hope that helps.

Rule 36/b applies here. It states:

In the event of a ball self-destructing due to extreme cold, the striker of said ball is advised to move to Florida.
