Last week I started looking for some new clubs to get and got a few opinions and today I went to a couple golf stores and talked to the salesmen and hit some clubs. I tried different types (from regular cavity backs to some that were more of a hybrid design), both graphite and steel, and he even let me hit a couple of womens clubs to see the different in shaft length since I am short, but the standard length felt fine.

Anyways, I hit 6 and 7 irons of different brands including Taylor Made Draw, Cleveland Launcher, Adams A3OS, Adams Tech OS, and a couple from a package set. Of course they all felt good when I hit the ball dead on, but I really liked the deep backs of both Adams sets because even when I didn't hit under the ball, it still got up in the air. The ones they had there were graphite, and to be honest I didn't really notice if I liked graphite better or not. I just noticed they were lighter. Are there any disadvantages to graphite shafts? The guy told me that you just dont notice feedback from them but is that something I need to worry about?

So I liked both Adams, but the OS3 is out of my price range and $600. The Tech OS were on sale at that shop for $500, but that still is a little more than I would like to spend. I am wondering if the A2 would be comparable (which they did not have) but have seen it online for around $269 and also an ad at a local store for $299 graphite shafts (if they have any left). I notice on those its says the 5-7 are hollow back as opposed to cavity back. What is the difference? The ones in the Tech OS I was hitting seemed more like a hybrid and I could hit it well, but is that big of a difference?

I wouldn't get anything with a deep cavity, they allow you to get sloppy with your swing. Out of your list I'd go with the TM's or Launchers...

So you're saying I shouldnt go with the clubs that felt the best to me in this case? I noticed the A2's didnt have as deep of a cavity in the 5-7 irons like the A3OS did. I wonder if that would be better?

Go with what you felt was best and if they can get it fitted for you that's probably all you can hope for. I wouldn't get too worried about trying to "grow into" a better players set right off the bat.

Make sure you feel comfortable with it now, the fun part about golf equipment is that you can always get something else down the road.

    • Day 82: mirror work again tonight. Working on the same shoulder down and roll and twist stuff. Going on vacation tomorrow and putting the clubs down, so new streak starts in about 10 days!
    • Day 44, June 17.  Today was some preliminary stretching, exploring what I'll want to set up as a regular routine (both while on vacation without clubs and when I'm back) (aside: this is part of an upcoming goal to stretch daily in a meaningful way, but I don't plan to count it as practice on days that I can meaningfully practice with a club)
    • Having a rough week. Went to the Dr. because I was really weak and could hardly swing my driver.  I take Propranolol 20 mg tablets twice a day. Seems like the Propranolol was driving my pulse down (low 50's).  So we cut the dosage in half and I started taking my blood pressure. It was a little high but pulse came up.   Then yesterday I raised it to 15 mg tab by taking it 3 times a day. Blood pressure 127 / 77 Pulse 75.  Heading out tomorrow morning for 18 holes.    I have my driver set at 10.5* but seem to have my swing speed to low and I can't get the lift on the ball I need.  I have not played this week in hopes I will have the strength to raise my swing speed. I may have to raise my loft to 12* . (I will take my driver wrench) tomorrow. (This Parkinson's is a pain in the butt.)  Will give you a report when I get back.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • You still got to lift your arms. You basically just roll your wrist over in the 1st half of the backswing.
    • Day 288 6-17 Low point control without ball. hit quite a few swing where i was wanting the club to hit the ground.  Added a ball with towel behind it, just to see where im at. Wasn't horrible but need some more work. Pretty much full speed swings.
