Launch Monitor

I've used a launch monitor session to help find the "right" shaft, clubs and ball for my game. I then followed up with an on the course testing to validate what the numbers told me. For what I learned I am very happy with my experience and will probably revisit this on a yearly basis as a checkup. I would even like to go back to try some more shaft/club combinations and would also like to try a putter fitting.

I like Tam O'Shanter. Its a fun course to play. I have not been there in a few years but I remember the first hole. Very short but tight.

Sad to say, but no I haven't used a launch monitor. I'm going to stalk the Titleist science van next year though.

I've used somewhat of a launch monitor when I was buying my driver. It didn't give me swing speed or anything. It was just a screen that showed me how far the drive would have gone if i was outside.

I plan on trying to use one when fitting for new irons, when i have the money saved.

I've used the Vector system 3-4 times and I was fitted for my irons using Hot Sticks Tech. Honestly I had an excellent experience with both systems but must admit these are nothing like a fully certified Titleist fitting session... I met a guy a month or so back who actually attented a TPI session and was fitted into his clubs, from what he told me it sounded amazing, the amount of variations and combinations available in every iron shaft on the market... something I'd love to experience, unfortunately I think that a few thousand dollars is a bit out of my range...

Save your money. Anyone who is willing to fit you for irons on a launch monitor is just trying to take your money. You can be fit far better for irons by looking at ball flight and swing dynamics. A fitter who uses a launch monitor to fit irons either has a poor eye or lacks experience. A good eye can also fit you for a putter better than any MATT technology or high speed camera. Those tools just like a launch monitor can provide information which helps a good fitter, but there's no substitue for knowledge and experience.

I used a launch monitor last winter to try to determine the difference in launch angle with three similar 6-irons (690.CB, 690.MB, 680) AFTER I'd been fitted for lie/length. Not every fitter has a full range to work with, after all, and sometimes launch monitors are helpful. And he didn't say he was paying for the fitting. I took the "when I have the money saved" as being for the irons.

Do you honestly need a launch monitor to tell you the difference between those three clubs? People often times make clubfitting far more complicated than it has to be, especially with the irons. 1. Decide the style of iron they want to play. Muscle back, cavity, game improvement, super game improvement. 2. Pick the ball flight you want and if you want any improvements. 3. Pick a shaft based on your swing. This may be the most difficult part of the fitting. 4. Static and dynamic fittings for lie and length. 5. Refit for lie and length after a month of play and adjust for any yardage gaps or ball flight issues You're done and in the perfect set of irons for your game. I know of no other PCS Class A clubfitters who use launch monitors to fit their clients into irons. It simply isn't needed.

Indoors, yeah. And particularly between the 690.MB and the 680. The 690.CB was there just for the heck of it. Heck, I also brought along my DCI 962b and my old MacGregor/Nicklaus irons, for the heck of it.

That's the part I was using the launch monitor to test. Get it? I wanted a lower ball flight without less loft.

I know of no other PCS Class A clubfitters who use launch monitors to fit their clients into irons. It simply isn't needed.

Nobody said it was needed. But since it was early March, and I only had access to a launch monitor indoors, I used it.

And I know of a few Class As that will, if the golfer requests, work on the launch monitor with the golfer. One guy I know does a lot of wedge fittings and uses a launch monitor to verify launch angle and spin.
