lI finally got mine today. I ordered the 4-pw. As other's have said, they have a very solid feel. I usually hit 7-10 GIR a round and I hit 9 today. It was very easy to hit these straight. I was playing X-18 Callaways and I was never really happy with them. I also got a spin milled sand wedge so I have some adjusting to do with so many new clubs. I still shot 78 on a 72.0/129, which is a good score for me. Hopefully the rain will stop at some time and we will start getting some roll. I'm going to play 36 tommorow so hopefully I'll start getting a feel for these clubs.

Woods: Titleist 909 D3, Titleist 909 F2
Hybrids: Taylormade Rescue
Irons: Titleist AP-2
Wedges: Titleist Vokey spin milled
Putter: White Hot 2 ball.

I am a fan of pure blades and have played woods brothers for over a year now and have only just started think about a more forgiving iron. I had fanatsised about the AP2s until they arrived in the proshop. One round and I had ordered them before the 18th green. Loved the feel of the Project Xs in there just for consistency and solid feel. I definitely knew when I hit the (generous) middle of the club and look forward to working with them to get the handicap right down now. Any thoughts on a suitable vokey combo to match the bottom end of the 47* wedge?

to complete the set the fitter advised on a 52* and a 57* (58* bent 1*) to keep in with the rest of the set (and keep a 5* difference)

Well done Erik. Your findings are similiar/identical to mine. I have been playing the AP2's for 2 weeks now and find a tremendous difference. Before these clubs I was hitting the 755's.

The difference in consistency of shots, height of ball flight, feel of shots, looks of club, and workability as far from the 755's.

Technology is getting better and better and it is shown in the AP2's.

Anyone experiencing AP1s or AP2s getting scratched/banged up easily? Like after just a few rounds?

Ive only played four rounds with mine so far and ive probably hit four large buckets of range balls. My friends have also hit a few balls trying them out. On close inspection you can tell they have been hit and there is some very slight bag chatter but nothing that I would consider out of the ordinary. I mean you realy have to look close to see anything.

Mine don't look bad at all, either. Hit clean golf balls - sand will scratch and wear any golf club. Some ranges are very sandy.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

  • 1 month later...
I have hit many clubs in recent weeks trying to decide what irons to buy. My local pro has all-but convinced me to get the AP2s which I was able to hit further than most other clubs I tried. I remain concerned, however, that my game may not be strong enough to do them justice. Am I wasting my money going with the AP2s (which look & feel great but offer me little forgiveness) or should I spend less on G/I10s (which look less appealing but probably suit my game better)? I haven't limited it to just the two - I have still got the CG57s and X20s on my shortlist.
I practice about twice a week and play about once a week. I am working at reducing my handicap down to single figures and want clubs that will go the distance....
Any advice will be most welcome....

I would go with the one that felt the best and recommendation from the fitter. AP2 would seem like a good choice as you are playing weekly (and getting better). If you feel that your handicap is decreasing. All very personal. As mentioned - AP1 is fine for your skill level (mid) and AP2 is for the <10 player.

Another option to consider is the Mizuno MX-25 or MP-57. I am going through the same process - I will be deciding between AP1 and MX-25 this week.

Good luck.

    • There seems to be a lot of buzz around the new Maxfli Tour and TourS balls, especially with a handful of tour pros signing on to play them. My understanding is that the Tour is similar to the Titleist ProV1 and TourS is like the Titleist AVX. Has anyone played them? My main concern is that while I liked the feel and performance of the Maxfli balls of many years ago, I found the paint job on them was lousy. The finish looked a bit faded right out of the box, and after a few holes they had faded even more, and sometimes the paint was actually coming off. I'm hoping to find out if they are using a different factory or improved their paint process.  Opinions, please.
    • Day 298: range session during lunch. Hit balls for about 20 minutes, focusing on start line and curve. Much better than last night. Then did a stack putting session, which was solid (for me).
    • Day 2 (3 May 24) - Played 18 with the Men’s group today….a fun round in which my elderly neighbor was part of the foursome I was in.
    • You advertise LIV as "golf but louder" You had DJ's pumping Jock Jams all over the place. You have Bros who are really into golf and TFG shot gunning 26 oz bud lights, while double fisting a 19 oz coors. What type of behavior do you expect?
    • Did LIV pros cross ‘etiquette’ line at Masters? 3-time major winner has thought Did LIV Golf pros cross an “etiquette” line last month at the Masters? Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington has a thought. I do not mind cursing. I rather see some emotion on the course and honest reactions to bad shots or what not. I didn't catch it being a TON of cursing in this Masters. It was not noticeable.
