I cant stand playing with anyone thats over a 18 handicap. Unless they are my friends. I dont care about age

Whys that? are you gods gift to golf playing off 14

Golf should not be about handicap, age, gender or race etc etc it should be about spending 18/36 holes with one or two other guys/women/juniors/seniors having a good time socially and hopefully shooting some good scores along the way. If your in a competition that holds some value you will be put out in handicap order anyway, not a random selection of groups.

i love beating the older members when they give you shit one this old man hit a bad shot i said bad luck mate and hes like THATS YOUR FAULT i was like how is that my fault and he said it just was. he didnt say any thing to the 2 other guys in our group
the best time ever was at my old club when i was 14 and i got a hole in one the look on the old members faces when i went into the club house was priceless took them about 3 months to put my name on the bord but when some one eles gets a hole in one its on there the next week. playing with guys in there 20's - 30's is the best you can joke a round and have a good time and they can hit the ball.

Things have changed since the day when Nick Faldo won his first (and only) club Medal at Welwyn - and was then disqualified because juniors weren't allowed to play before midday. And all Medal teetimes were before that magic hour...
Things have changed but not everywhere, it would seem.
I'm delighted to play with the youngsters - and make a point of ensuring that the good players, the ones whose handicaps are improving, get selected for the representative teams. In general, I find the kids enthusiastic, interested to learn the rules and etiquette, and bursting to improve themselves. When it comes to representative golf, you can rely on the kids to dig deep to try and win. I can't think of anyone in the club who objects to the kids - not even the crusties who snort at the sight of women on the course...
So, Jamesbei, if you aren't welcome at your current club, find one that does welcome and encourage youngsters. I'm sure there are plenty, even in Kent!

I'm welcome and quite a respected member at my club, so I hope I have not come across as bitter

Edit: sorry there was actually a poster from kent called James Bei, I thought you was using my name JaY_B (James Bowditch) ironically.

I have a question for you adult golfers, when i turn up for a competition i often see my proposed playing partners faces groan when they see i am A JUNIOR MEMBER!!!!!!

I have the same problem, so many times adults paired up with me ask if they can play alone, even though at 13 i can out drive half of them.

Nope - the thought never occurred to me. Didn't even make the connection - he's from Maidstone, you're from Orpington. A world of difference!

Hey...my kid feels your pain. It took 2 years before his home course accepted him, and he was close to a scratch player, like he was a 4. Now he is a scratch player and the adults love to play with him.

I will say this...I had to have a talk with my son a month or so ago. He didn't want to be paired off with the new kids that were ranging in ages of 12 to 13. He thought he was above "that." I informed he was that kid 3 years ago, now shut up and see if maybe you can be a good role model for those kids. He now plays with those kids once a week, heck even with his other friends, all low index players, are playing with these kids. They all now enjoy playing with them. And the things they've taught them, like cleaning your clubs...and other mundane things have made my son and his friends glad they are there to guide them.

~disclaimer~ I'm just a golf mom.

I don't really care one way or the other, unless I know and like the junior. I watched a kid starting at 10 years old, trying hard to play, havin to hit 4 woods on 150 yard par 3s, become a plus 1 handicap 17 year old who qualified for the US Jr. Amateur and win a golf scholarship to college.

It was a lot of fun to see him go from shooting 65 for 9 holes to seeing him shoot a 65 in a tournament !

Tiger, I'm sure you have something interesting to say but it's very difficult to understand what you're saying. Can you type more slowly and use the spellchecker to make sure you're making sense? It would make things easier for us old fogeys.

As a Father of 4,...... obviously it doesn't bother me when I play at least once a week with all my kids.

And yes..it is a proven fact that kids can play much faster than most all adults....so long as the kid is not a Tiger wannabe.

I love playing with Junior Golfers who can golf. I hate playing with the ones who are just learning because it makes for a long and annoying round. If the junior can hit the ball over 100 yards and shows etiquette than I don't mind at all. I use to have a regular 4some and it included a 12 year old kid who was almost as good as me. You can learn from them and they can learn from you. It is fun to watch young guys hit the ball so well.

"I love winning against the older members who give me grief, once I hit an older member as a result of a particularly bad strike. Once meeting the member that my ball struck I said bad luck mate, for some reason the older member got angry and told me rather loudly "THATS YOUR FAULT", I think my confusion was apparent and asked the member "how is that my fault", the member said "it just was" but would not say anything to the two other golfers I was playing with at the time. I think the most enjoyable moment I have had at the golf club was when I was fourteen and got a hole in one!!, for some reason the older members seemed very bitter and resentful when I came in to the clubhouse and delightfully told the members what had happened, the look on said members faces was priceless. It took three months for my name to go up on the "hole in one" board, when an adult member gets a hole it one it goes up on the board within a week. Playing with fellow members in their twenties/thirties can be a very enjoyable round of golf, they can also hit the ball rather well."

    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
