A Freddy Couples course:

It looks gorgeous!

I'm taking the wife and kids down in July to visit family and this course is right next door to where I grew up. Of course back then, I had no interest in golf whatsoever. My brother, who finally got me to give the game a go by giving me his old clubs 2 years ago will be there too and we are going to play this beauty and maybe another in the Hollister/Gilroy area.

Any comments on San Juan Oaks, or recommendations for other nice courses in the area? I saw one called "Eagle Ridge" in Gilroy that looks very nice.

bump.

Wow. Seriously - no one has played this course???

C'mon California Sandtrappers, spill the beans.

Or Ridgemark CC in my hometown of Hollister. Anyone ever play that?

Its in great shape but is incredibly tough. It's a pretty tough walk if thats how you play. Don't let your ego convince you to play the wrong tees, its plenty hard from the whites. Above all, make sure you are hitting your driver straight, but it is definetly worth playing at least once, maybe 2 ot 3 times depending on the length of your stay. I haven't played Ridgemark, but I have heard great things about it.

Useless, Thanks for the info!!!

Sounds like a tough course, but i'm pretty sure I want to give it a crack (the price is right as well). My best scores so far have been on the courses that, in my area, are supposedly the toughest.

Google earth is so awesome... I've been able to get a close up look at the course from a distance:

looks like this course will really let you feel like you are getting away from everything, which is one of my favorite qualities in a course. That split fairway looks pretty challenging!

I also found out that it is the site of the first stage qualifying tournament for Q School!

excited.

    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
    • Day 543, April 27, 2024 Practiced for about an hour today. Almost all slow, with plenty of rehearsals.
