Since switching over to the Bullseye Putter my putting skills have increased from poor to recently earning the name "Mr One-Putt" at my club.  I kind of went nuts and bought about 15 of them on EBay.  I paid about $20 each. They all need restoration which I enjoy doing.

I have found a few tricks I like to use with them. My favorite is when faced with a very fast downhill putt is hit it on the inside edge of the putter face. It dampens the putt and slows the roll down significantly. The soft feel if the brass is unmatched by the current putters.

Couldn't you just hit it softer? 😁

You can but with a very quick down hiller it nice to not have to adjust your wing speed but rather use this trick.  Don't knock it until you try it.

Probably not a good idea for me.

I have to think about the line I want to start the putt on and the distance I want to hit it. Now I'd also have to consider how much umph to add because I'm intentionally going to miss the sweet spot. ... Eek, that's too much for my poor little brain to contend with. 😖

If it works for you, great. Too much for me.

Oh then I can knock it. You literally change the speed you hit every putt. So that logic makes no sense.

I found an old Acushnet John Reuters putter, a small mallet, in my wife’s new (to her) classroom. It’s very beat up but has the original shaft and grip I think.

I know it sounds a little odd. Also I have only tried it with the Bullseye.  But the brass has such a nice soft feel it seems very easy and I have dropped some nice birdies with it.

I don't think it sounds odd. I've heard other people say it in the past. I just think you are adding variables you don't need to add. Think of it this way, do you know how much distance you are taking off with a heel strike? Toe strike? How far out on the toe do you have to hit it? How far toward the heel? How much slope does there have to be before you do it? Is it two degrees of slope per quarter inch toward the heel? Getting the speed right on the putt is difficult enough without adding MORE variables.

Again, If you like doing it, don't let me stop you. But know that you are adding more variables to the equation. 🙂

Like Chet said, it doesn't sound "odd," it sounds illogical. You said you "do not have to adjust your swing speed" but you have to do that on every putt anyway, so… you're just adding another variable to the equation.

It's unnecessary. Illogical.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
