What Angle for Alignment Stick in Ground for Follow-Through?

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, life has really been a whirlwind. I’m working on a certain drill where I put an alignment stick angled in the ground on the follow-through side for the club to rise above in the P7-P8 phase, but I’m not sure which angle is best.

I’m using TGM terms here, so I don’t know if it should be set on the elbow plane or the turned shoulder plane. This alignment stick is going to be on the inside, by the way, can’t have it on the outside as it’s more likely for the ball to hit it!

I feel as if the elbow plane might be too low for P7-P8 and that I should set it higher. What are your opinions if you have experience with this drill?

I usually set it for what club I’m using. For driver, it’s a bit flatter angle than iron and I try to parallel the lie angle of the club.

The thing is, I don’t think the address plane is upright enough, the plane has to shift from P7-P8, the whole “low and left” craze is not the way to play golf now. Plus that makes the head dip whereas if you set it on a higher plane, the head will rise after P7 as it’s supposed to.

If @iacas could chime in here, that’d be great.

Does it, though?

The white "stick" here is roughly where a stick on the target line in front of the golfer might be, and it's parallel to the shaft angle at setup.

And if the point is to miss the stick to one side (above it), why would you want it exactly where the shaft should be going? You'd want it "under" that plane/angle/line/path (however you think of it), no?

I noticed if I went over rather than under for the drill, it’s easier to play a push-fade consistently since the face isn’t closing as rapidly, it’s as if the face angle wants to follow where the path goes.

My miss is a pull or pull-hook because I’m coming across the ball with a square to closed club face and feeling the handle on a higher plane after P7 seems to slow down the rate of closure and helping me hit a tiny push-fade.
I’ve decided based on the pics that you’ve provided to set the stick on the elbow plane instead of the turned shoulder plane, thanks Erik!
