I was involved in a pairs match play golf yesterday. One of my opponents picked up my marker and put it in his pocket believing he had found an unwanted marker on the green. I tried to warnnhim not to pick it up but he didn't hear me.

He was on the green for 3. My partner and I were both on the green for 5 (nett 4) as we both received a shot. His partner had already picked up. All three of us had putts of between 12 and 20 feet. I said to my opponents that they had conceded the hole by their actions and we proceeded to the next hole. We did not putt out. Was I correct? Does anybody know the correct ruling or procedure for this situation?

See Rule 9.7, the Opponent who picked up your marker gets one penalty stroke, and the marker must be replaced.

And that said, @Lindsay, if they went along with the concession then that’s what stands.

    • Day 51: Another long day, so another mirror work day. Again, focused on cleaning up set up and then not straightening the trail leg as much in the backswing. Need to feel like my knees stay a little more bent.
    • Day 595 - 2026-05-19 Got some short game work in today during some lessons. Made a lot of putts too. Without trying. Golfer kept chuckling.
    • Day 15, May 19.  Today, after work (in stages), I hit two dozen practice balls at home.  Slow swings, focusing on the lifting of the arms as per my latest lesson.
    • Day 259 5-19 Slow work on arms getting more in front. Lots of pause at the top, then rehearsals, then swing.
    • Day 70 (19 May 26) - weekly 9 hole session with my good friend this morning, however the better session was this afternoon with my grandson.  He put in for nine holes of match style play (we did stroke count as well).  The rules - I had to play from my regular tees but with irons only (no metal woods or hybrids (nothing with head covers)) while he played from the most fwd tees with his full bag.  Was a fun match and watching his competitive juices flowing.  He won the match 1/0 holding the lead as we tied the ninth.  Stroke wise it was a messy nine for me and he beat me by one stroke - not bad for a 10yr old.  Best of all - it was a dream session come true.
