I met with my instructor the other night to work on the driver. He had me take four full throttle swings without stopping.  When I finished he said look down at your feet and see if they had moved any. Well my right foot slid back about an inch or so. (I'm right handed) and he said that should be my natural set up as far as where my feet we concerned. I had never heard that before, and I didn't notice any real difference when I started hitting balls. He said, that I might not notice it at first, but it is just part of the big picture. Have any of you ever heard this? I am not questioning his methods, he has helped me tremendously and I encourage everyone to support their local instructor, just curious if its taught elsewhere?

Never really heard of it. Pretty sure Scottie Scheffler's or JT's stances should not be like this:

If he asks you to swing out of your boots several more times and your trail foot moves again, will that become your new natural setup?

I'm not an instructor, but, this sounds questionable to me.

I have been trying to remember to incorporate this stance on the course.
I have found when my right foot is back just slightly, I have a better take away, get proper rotation, don't over swing and hit the ball much more straight.

This was taught to me by my first instructor, when he was trying to get me to understand the take away and rotation. He would have me drop my right foot back about a foot and a half and make easy practice swings. These swings made it easy to get through the ball.

I have tried to work this routine into my pre-shot routine. Drop the right foot back a lot, make a few swings, then slide the right foot a little back behind the left.  If I can remember not to overswing, or collapse my arms, or pull my head up I get a decent result.

YMMV

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
