I'm reading a Hank Haney ebook called "Hank Haney's Essentials of the Swing".

On page 150 of 711 he says "I see so many players holding the club too much in the fingers of the left hand, which leads to instability in the clubface".

This caught me by surprise.  I know I've had the opposite issue and seen quite a few amateurs holding the club in the palm more than the fingers.

Thoughts?

Hank needs to define “too much”. A good test for me is to take my grip then squeeze and relax. If the face moves then I need to reset the grip. But I tend to have it pretty far in the fingers as @iacas instructed me.

Yeah, uhhhh, I can count on my fingers the number of golfers I've seen with the grip too far in the fingers. I'll put it that way.

Some PGA Tour players (including Tiger) have had success with the grip a little more in the palm than I generally like. They also play with somewhat weaker grips, generally speaking.

He might also be wrong, or he might also see a lot of what I call "fake strong" grips which SEEM like they're in the fingers but they're not.

And actually, what he might see and be talking about is a grip that goes too far into the index finger, while still going across the palm some. Slightly more angled than even this:

I posted this tweet and video here:

But since it's relevant to the image above… here it is in this topic too:
