I hit a 54 degree Cleveland wedge. If you are in the rough (especially deep rough), a sand wedge is not a bad choice, as they have more bounce. Most gap and lob wedges usually have less bounce and would get hung up in the rough - usually short.

Many companys (i.e. Cleveland) offer all wedges in 3 bounces, so you can match the wedge that best matches the course and conditions.
Whats in my bag:

Fairway/Hybrid: 15 & 19 degree Nickent 3dx Utility

I'm "other" but only just:

50º, 56º, 60º

I don't do full shots with my 56 or 60 so there's no problem with the 6 degree gap.

That's why I have no 3 iron (on which I do not hate).

i use 58 60 and sometimes a 64.
58 i use as my sand wedge and for medium to long bump and runs and also a chip/flop that i want to bite and spin.
60 i use from medium rough for flop shots and from light fluffy sand.
64 for short bump and runs and for really high flop shots

I have a PW and GW which are part of my iron set and 1/2" longer than standard. I use these for full shots to 100 yards. I then have two vokey spin milled wedges 56 10 and 60 8. I use the GW for my chips and bump and run shots. I use my 56 in the sand and chips on an uphill lie. I use my 60 for my pitches and flops.

To add to my 52/56/60, I am also carrying a 46, but it is a part of my set as a PW and I really do not count that one.

46* Hogan FTX / 50* Taylormade RAC / 54* Callaway X Tour / 60*Hogan

My 50* wedge with 7 degree of bounce is the most versatile club in my bag. It takes care of the 95-110 yards off the fairway, bump & runs around the greens & delicate chips & pitches. This is the only wedge in my bag where I get consistent distance control (knockdowns & high soft landings) varying my distances on 3 quarter to full swings by 15 yards.

I use:
48* stock 2005 X-Tour Forged PW= 150-155 yards
52* Taylormade RAC= 130-140 yards
56* Taylormade RAC= 115-125 yards
60* Taylormade RAC=100-115 yards
64* Callaway X Forged= anything less than 100 yards and not in a bunker

I get plenty of distance (115+ clubhead speed) so I have to really be dialed in with the wedges or I will never be able to score. I am just trying to get my bag dialed in so that I can know exactly how far and descent swing will go with all my clubs and then I may drop the 60* but the 64* is a keeper for sure and if you have never used one they are nice clubs and not at all difficult to hit in my opinion and the spin even on range balls is nice. I just switched from right handed to left handed and it took me about 2 minutes
to get used to this club. They will be in everybody's bag soon enough.

i don't like that the wedges are usually made in even #'s when PW's are usually 47º

I currently use 47*, 52*, 58*, but I am thinking about moving to a 54*, and 60* for more options to get the ball high.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
