I currently have Wilson Staff D9 forged irons which I enjoy but like many of us, I’ve been checking out the Takomo irons and I’m thinking about switching but obviously there’s no custom fitting centres etc.

I'm trying to work out what my spec would be and hoping some of you wonderful people could help. Going by the Wilson site, the standard shaft length of the 7i is 37.25 and the lie angle is 62. The Takomo 7i is 37 and the lie is 62.5.

When I was fitted for the Wilson’s, I was told I’m +1 and 1 degree upright. Am

i correct in saying I just need to work out the difference in the figures eg in the Takomo I’d be 1.75 longer and 0.5 upright or would it not matter with only being .25 difference in standard length and .5 in lie?

By my math it's 1.25" longer.

But yeah, without a fitting, I'd say using the specs for your current irons would be an okay place to start.

One thing you may want to consider is if you have an odd gap someplace. For example maybe you hit your 9-iron 135, your 8-iron 150 and your 7-iron 160. You may want to get your 8 iron bent a bit weak. or what ever your individual case may dictate.  When getting the new clubs it might be an opportunity for your to tweak some distance control issues you may have.

The other option of course is to buy them based on your best guess and then have the lie/loft tweaked later with your swing coach or the like.

Good luck, let us know how you like em.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Sorry you’re correct with 1.25. Yeah that’s a good idea too about getting them tweaked if need be.

    • Folks, I am having some difficulty understanding how this is fair and equitable;   The USGA says that handicaps in a fourball match play are based off of the low handicap in the group.   For example; players A and B are partners, C and D are partners, Handicaps are A = 18, B = 23, C&D are both 19. therefore B gets 5 strokes and C&D both get 1 stroke. Player B gets 5 strokes even though C&D, his opponents, are only 4 strokes less in handicap. Somehow, to me, this doesn't seem fair and equitable.    Anyone have clarifying thoughts?   Hopefully I got the terminology correct.
    • Yeah, I drove out a few times just to check out  the landing area and still was surprised at where the ball ended up with what I thought were perfectly placed drives.
