Aloha Esteemed Golfers,

We finally got around to visiting Ireland for a couple weeks and drove to the Northwest county of Donegal. There we played Banduran GC then Dunfanaghy. There we played with a couple of the members who would made it an enjoyable experience. Had an easy day at Redcastle then stepped up our game and headed to Rosapenna. We loved this place, the golf, the hotel and the people. We played Sandy Hills, The Old Tom Morries Links, and St Patrick’s (our favorite), and I would play all 3 again if I could, good fun. Then we headed to Ballyliffen, two very good golf courses, nice clubhouse, and good people. Not sure I’d go back there, Rosapenna had a very nice hotel easy reservations, Ballyliffen not so much; Rosapena took 1 email and 100€ to secure all 3, Ballyliffen took 15 emails and they required full payment at time of booking.

In the end we loved every day. We spent a few days in Dublin, and then took the long flight back to Honolulu.

The two images shows the standard outfit for each day except the final 3 days. 2nd image wife teeing it up on St Patrick's, a beautiful course.

Holy cow, that sounds like a great vacation.

So great that you and your wife got to experience it all together.

Funny, about the different check in processes.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • You should be able to install it yourself, honestly. You could easily blow it on and use some one-sided duct tape or something so it stays in place. That's what I've done with one of my grips.

    • Hi all, My Edel putter seems to have developed a rattle.  I don't think it's a big deal, as I mostly hear it when I'm tapping down ball marks on greens.  However, I am debating getting it fixed, especially as I intend to play a lot of golf in August and September, and to continue playing regularly after that of course too.  My issue is I think fixing it would entail the fixer (golf shop repair station?) removing the grip and, presumably, applying a new one.  My problem is two-fold.   First, I like the grip on it, although after eleven years, maybe it's worth replacing.   The bigger (second) issue is getting the grip.  I don't like the flat-fronted putter grips anymore.  I have the round one on my putter, and I suppose I could buy one from Edel's website, but would a golf shop install a grip I bought elsewhere and brought in?  Or could they order one if Edel is not a supplier of theirs?  I don't recall ever seeing any Edel products in a Roger Dunn or PGA Superstore, although the era when I would go to a store and browse has long since ended (for better or worse).  I'd also wonder what the timetable is, as I'm leaving for a seven week trip in under three weeks. Any suggestions on what to do would be very welcome, whether about the rattle or the grip, together or independently.  Thank you!
    • I'm glad to know that picking up grass and letting it go doesn't help.  It felt like it shouldn't, but I'm glad to hear there's a good reason why.  It makes sense that wind is different higher up than it is near the surface. For a while, I was in the habit of checking the prevailing wind direction before playing.  That helped if I wasn't sure.  However, I still am not really sure whether something is a 5% wind or a 10% wind (and, of course, I know that a "helping" wind helps about half as much as the same wind hurting).   One of these days, I'll learn how to figure out what to do differently if the prevailing wind is 10mph vs 20 mph.
