Current prices at my local shop...

Burner: $299
SuperQuad R7: $279

Burner Draw: $199
R7 460: $149

I do tend to slice / fade. With all the hype on these is the Superquad that much better than the R7 460?

Posted
no...it costs more because it uses more weights for more versatility.

go with the r7 460, you really can't go wrong. and when you set it up put a 14g weight in the heel and a 2g weight in the toe and that should help a little bit.

I was not a fan of the Burner - too light and long for my liking.

There is very little between the R7 460 and the Superquad. Superquad has a heavier shaft (65g v 60g) and the additional weights giving more flexibility to set the club up the way you want (if you did actually change the weights after initially setting them up!)

If you can get the R7 460 for that price, I'd go for it over the Superquad.

Actually I think it was $189 or $199 now that I think of it. I think the R7 draw was $139.

I would go with the R7 460 and spend the saved $$$ on the right shaft. Additionally, if you have problems like fading the ball, you might consider trimming the shaft. This will give you some more control. Based on the distances you listed, even if you were to lose a few yards, it should not affect your game.

i agree. get the R7 460 if they Dont have a 425, the 425 to the superquad is pretty much the same but the superquad is bigger. get the 460 and get a good shaft with the saved $

I've got the 460 and its the straightest driver i've ever hit. However, I got too much loft and lost a little distance so i've recently got the 460 with a degree less loft and an upgraded shaft. UPS man, hurry!!!

I think you'd be pleased with the 460, very forgiving.

If $$ not in the equation go with the quad, but I agree for the $$ you can't go wrong with the R7 460. I've played 4 Taylormade drivers...like each..love the quad. I still have an older 580, older 425 quad, and gave my R7 460 draw to my son after one season, only difference I've found is distance...I hit the quad a little further 10-20 yrds...all are very forgiving drivers. All but the 580 are 10.5 loft, the 580 was 9.5...Also liked the Callaway BB 460 seams to be in the $$ range your looking at. Good luck.

Go with the R7 460 it is a much better buy and I think it has better feel than the SuperQuad

FYI -- went to a demo day today and the TM rep told me that the Superquad is "no longer being made" and has been replaced by the Tour Burner.

Superquad or Burner.

Anything else will cause you to pull hook it.
Unless you have a crazy slice

I'd reccomend the Burner more, the Superquad is meant for a high swing speed

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
