Me at the golf range today. I know I tend to overswing most of the time. Trying to work on how to fix that. Ignore the background noise . All helpful comments welcome. Thanks in advance!

Too much 'lateral' (sideways) body movement in my opinion, yes your swing needs to be shorter and stabilizing your body throughout the swing will help shorten it.

In terms of how to cure this, you could try and maintain your spine angle, feel like your legs remain solid and in the address position throughout the swing, or get a training aid called "The Leader Board"

Forgot too add; Your address position is pretty solid, you strike the ball well (your bad strikes seem to be fat, which is because you have too much body movement) and you have a nice smooth swing.

The lateral movement came from when I got 2 lessons last year when I was starting out. My swing used to be shorter last year but got out of hand this year. I think I need to improve the nut swinging the club before justifying anymore new clubs.

P.S. Repped you for your comments! Thanks again.

exactly.....just try making your swing a bit more compact.....don't try and kill everything, and you should be fine

Yeah I'm working on it. The recent videos I took were actually toned down version of my swing.

i was actually really suprised too see that you're a 20+, your swing looks pretty good, so i wouldn't worry about making any drastic changes

The very first thing for you to do is fix your backswing. Look how far back you go!

I think fixing that first would be good because as long as you are swinging that far back you will have almost 0% of making a good swing.

You take the club way too far back, and you straighten your right leg out completely on the backswing.

Try to keep that right knee in a flexed position all the way through the swing, and it will cut down your backswing severely.

You can also kick your right heel out away from your body (pretty severely at first), and this will force you to keep that right knee flexed.

i agree with the other posts...you have A LOT of lateral movement and head movement. a good program for you to check out is V1 Golf. http://www.v1golf.com/consumer/default.asp

this will help you get a better understanding of your swing and allow you to compare it to professional swings, if you buy it for $40, otherwise most functionality works for free. this is the software i use and i really like it. another thing that would help us analyze your swing is to get some "Down the line" shots, instead of all "Face on" shots like you have posted.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll update the post with some new videos with down the line shots once I try to fix my faults somewhat. I think one from last year is a down the line shot.

Was watching my swing and was wondering if it helps to keep my right elbow next to my side during the backswing and downswing until after contact. I had someone tell me to do this recently.

This program is AWESOME!!! I will take more videos and analyze on my own before posting.

Junki - this video helped me out a lot in shortening my backswing and resulted in some decent results - dropped me from a 14 to an 11 this year.

http://welch-e.com/video/xxx_blog.wmv

It has some very technical stuff in it - but if you get past it with an open mind, you should see some decent results.

First of all, big shout out from Queens! I hit the Alleypond range and the New Hyde Park range all the time myself. I don't doubt we ran into each other passingly during practice lol.

Ok, to the important part... as everyone have mentioned you have too much lateral motion to the right on your backswing. I also see you straighten out your right knee on the backswing, allowing your right hip to rotate so far that you probably tend to hit fat from the hip not being able to rotate far enough forward at your impact position.

My best advice to you would be to limit your hip turn by keeping a flex in your right knee. Simple way to do that is to kick in your right knee (flexed) slightly at set up and keep it kicked in as you complete your backswing, therefore limiting your hip turn and shoulder turn as well. Even more simpler way would be to tell yourself to make 3/4 backswing, but with a full downswing and follow through. I found that my 3/4 swing and full swing does not differ in distance but found the shorter swing to be far more consistant and accurate.

P.S. - Nice to find a fellow Korean golfer from the same area on this forum... using the same 20 year's-old Karten's Ping Eye-2 irons!!! I learned tons of things from scouring the old posts and I'm sure you will find many valuable info and hints as have I.

That was my 3/4 swing.

Yes, I need an overhaul on my swing. I will be recording more videos and using the V1 to analyze my swing so that I fix all the faults and bring the swing into one plane! Let me know if you want to hit a bucket or go for a round.

Me at the golf range today. I know I tend to overswing most of the time. Trying to work on how to fix that. Ignore the background noise

Your swing from last year was from down the line, while the ones you took this year are from face on, so that may be why you like last years best (I also used to prefer my downline view compared to my face on view).

Below I have included a screen capture of your swings, and I'll include my thoughs below the link. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/9...kiswingbt3.jpg From face on view at setup your ball position looks a little too far back (as a line up from the middle of the ball points through the middle of your head. If you look at pros with irons (see link below) the ball is in line with the front ear. From there they have an easy time getting behind the ball in the backswing, and an easier time to power through the ball. http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/254...ballposdg0.jpg From a down the line view it looks like your legs might be a little loose and your hips might be low and in a slightly sitting position. Feeling like the hips are held high and pushed back slightly along with the legs feeling like they are in a stable supporting position is the recommended position. (look at the setup position in the picture below) http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6...ownlinegp6.jpg The face on camera looks to have moved as you swung back (see how the line that was drawn up from the ball is no longer over the ball), but it looks like your back leg has straightened (which is confirmed by the down the line view), and that has made it so that your hips and shoulders will over rotate. As you can see in the second and third face on clips your shoulders stopped turning (in the second capture) and your arms continued to move, and that has lead to you swinging past parallel which will be a difficult position to swing the arms and body down in sync from. A good model for swinging the arms and body in sync is Annika Sorenstam: http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...ol.aspx?id=764 http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...ol.aspx?id=765 http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...ol.aspx?id=763 http://www.drop.io/sorenstamsync From the down the line view as you move back we see your back knee loose its flex (and the back leg straighten). It also looks like your upper arm may be seperating from your upper chest area starting back and that can lead to the arms over rotating and the club swinging flat and behind the body. At the top of the swing from the downline view we see your right leg has straightened (we see a large gap and lots of day light between your legs), and as a result your back hip has risen and the shoulders and head tilt toward the ground. Starting down the arms seem to get left behind by the chest, and they begin a steep decent down toward the ball. With pros you will tend to see the arms and body move down in sync with the club dropping behind the golfer (shallowing out the swing path, and allowing the wrists to retain their hinge for power). http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6...ownlinegp6.jpg Since the arms are lagging behind they get stuck, and the shoulders and arms move up to allow the arms to get around the body, and the shaft points steep at impact (often meaning contact will be glancing and lacking in power). Your finish position (reverse C with the club pointing down your spine) suggests that your lower body is firing toward the target instead of clearing behind you. In summary: At setup get the ball farther forward, the hips set high, and the legs in position to support the swing. During the back swing get the arms and body moving in sync (keeping the upper left arm close to the chest), and maintain the flex in the back knee. As the downswing begins keep the back turned away long enough for the arms to start down in sync with the upper body. With those adjustments your ball stiking should become increasingly powerful and accurate.

In my bag:

Driver: Burner TP 8.5*
Fairway metals/woods: Burner TP 13* Tour Spoon, and Burner TP 17.5*
Irons: RAC MB TP Wedges: RAC TPPutter: Spider Ball: (varies ) (Most of the time): TP Red or HX Tour/56---------------------------------------------------

your swing is pretty solid. if you lessen the backswing a bit, i think it will be super. you make good contact, you go inside to start and then come around your head with the club over your shoulder really nicely.

keep it up! and i hope to see you this week golfing, yeah?!
