Hey guys, I'm really considering purchasing either a hybrid or 5-wood. Which do you guys prever and what brand/model? I need something for 210-230 range. I have an ft-5 15 degreed 3 wood which i love.

thanks

Hey there..you will no doubt recieve input on what certain people prefer, I myself play the Nike T-40 4 & 7 woods, I didn't get the results I liked with a 3 hybrid.

But the bottom line is you need what is comfortable for YOU to hit. The best thing you can do is go demo several different clubs and you may find one that gives you the desired results. Without knowing your game is really hard to say which club would be in the 210-230 range.

I find my 18 degree hybrid to be more useful from bad lies and the rough than a 5 wood. I can fly it 190-200 yards from the rough, about 210 from the fairway. I play it on shots were I have estimated I have 220-230 to my target and I try to land it short. A 5 wood is much better from the tee and fairway, though. So its a pro-con. You have to weigh the advantages to what you think will fit your game.

I would go with the hybrid. Has a lot more playability and is a whole lot better from the rough, but try both a 5-wood and a hybrid out before you make your decision. Really, its a personal preference.

I keep reading that a hybrid is easier to hit from the rough then a fairway wood.

I hit my Burner 18* 5 wood from the rough a lot without any problems. It seems to cut through the grass fine and will even take a divot sometimes. I have demoed a few hybrids on the range but never had a chance to hit one out of the rough.

Well said, the bottom line is what you're comfortable with, so demo as many as you can beofre you select. My case in point, I can hit the 3W G10 quite well but can't hit it's little sister the 5W consistently. After much demoing, i got comfortable with the Mizuno F60 5W. The Cleveland Hibore 2i hybrid (19*) is a personal choice ever since it came out, just easy to hit for me. But sooner or later i have to deicde which goes on a vacation so i can add a wedge.

While I use an 18 degree Cobra Baffler DWS in place of a 5 wood, the answer to your question may lie

in your question: if you love the FT-5 3 wood, why don't you try the FT-5 5 wood? You would then have the same look at address and the same shaft with which you are familiar.
