Hey Everyone,

Entering my fourth year playing, im shooting in the high 80's to low 90's, but I know I can get better and I honestly think everything has to do with my grip. I've been noticing that many golfers I come across and watching the pros (as well as reading from magazines) that the symbol on my glove is pointed at the target at address. Now im getting mixed instructions here because I dont know what's right. My symbol is nowhere near pointing the front as I believe, after doing much research, that I have a "strong" golf grip:

Im not slicing as much anymore as I believe i've corrected that problem, but my big issue is aim. I can get the ball to go pretty far and in the general area, but I know I can cut a good 7-10 strokes off if I can figure out how to get the ball to generally go straight most of the time. Any help would be great!!! Thanks in advance...

Looks a little strong to me as you stated, id work on getting a more neutral grip, rotate your hands on the grip a little counter-clockwise so you can see 2 knuckles on your left hand with a strong grip most people have a tendancy to have the clubface shut at impact and will have to compensate on the downswing to keep the face square, try a neutral grip and should help to take a timing out of the equation a bit

Sorry, I left this out of the thread. I've been trying to go to a more nuetral grip but for the life of me, I cannot force my hand into that position. I get the club in my hand, set it down to the ball, getting it squared then grip my club nuetral but before I know it im so uncomfortable that my hand kind of has a mind of its own and starts to regrip itself to a strong position. It's beyond annoying.

That's my biggest issue.

Are you holding the shaft along the palm of your hand or along the bottom pads of your fingers. Most people have a habit of laying the shaft directly acroos their palm and this can cause problems.

I thought this video was helpful.

Also, about the see two knuckles...that always confused me because it depends on what eye is dominant and if your head is in the right spot. Sometimes people say the line between your thumb and finger (and they should ideally connect) points around your right shoulder...but again that assumes your setup is correct.

It does feel uncomfortable at first. Before I took lessons, my grip was horrible and super strong. I practiced by grip everyday for a couple of weeks until it felt right. Look at Ben Hogan's book too. He's got a lot of pictures properly demonstrating the Vardon grip.

That video is awesomely helpful, my grip was absolutely pathetic before I watched it a few weeks ago. I didn't realize how wrong my grip was until I watched that guy's videos. He has one or two more about the golf grip that are helpful, too. I'm glad you brought it to this thread, JackieTreehorn.

in this vid he shows you how to grip.

forgot which step # it was but check it out.

For your left hand (if your right handed)
this is how i think of the grip. think gripping a remote (pretend the grip is a small skinny remote) and has only 1 button on top. that button is for your thumb.
wish i had some pics to illustrate but ... i'm at work and i can't be messing around looking for pics...
