I was just looking back at my round a couple of weeks ago during a golf channel amateur tour stop. It is honestly the strangest looking scorecard I've ever seen. I'm just getting very frustrated with my inability to make pars. My scores vary so much from hole to hole.

Does anyone else struggle with this, and/or know a solution?

(FYI - I was tied for first in my flight after 9 holes)

Nice eagle on that par 4. A bit short though - 273? you must have gotten under GIR.

I had a golf buddy recommend reading Dr. Rotella's "Golf is not a Game of Perfect" and "Putting out of your Mind." I plan on reading both over the next few days.

I've struggled with rounds similar to this. It's frustrating and I feel your pain. I'm hoping that these books will cure some of these ailments. Judging from my friend's game, it works.

Yeah, I got a nice bounce from the rough by the green and only had about a 4 foot putt straight up the hill. The most tense I've ever been over that easy of a putt

Looking closer over that scorecard - were you off the back tees? The par 3's are pretty long.

Yeah, there are a couple of long par 3s. There are also a couple of very short ones too, though. It is a very old course (~100 yrs) which explains the short overall layout.

Tell us the stories of your double and triple bogies (and the four)

Did you three-putt them? Couldn't make the sand saves? What happened on holes: 4, 7, 10, 17, 18?

4 - Trouble off the tee, layed up to 8-iron range, caught false front and rolled back, on the green, putted 3 feet past, choked , holed

7 - middle of the fairway, greenside bunker, well past hole, 3 feet short, choked , holed

10 - drive that looked perfect, penalty because ball had caught the hill to the pond in front of the green (too much club off the tee), wedge that bounced off back of the green, chip past the hole, missed putt, holed

16 - drive to the middle of the fairway (ball well below my feet), shanked a wedge OB, angering penalty stroke, wedge to fringe, poor chip, putt came up just short, holed

17(my mental collapse) - chunked tee shot that somehow made the front greenside bunker, took stance over ball and realized too late that I had the wrong club so I had to swing it-- shot hit the sand just below the lip and buried, got correct club but lip was jail and next shot was left in the sand again, finally escaped bunker but nowhere near the hole, left the putt short, took a stab and missed the short one , holed

18 (because you asked) - drive got below some trees, punched back to fairway, approach landed on fringe behind the hole, putted on, holed

There is a detail of the holes that you requested (including 16 cause I figure you meant to ask about that one). I'm seeing a trend of penalty strokes and missed short putts.

Yeah, I did mean 16, sorry. :)

Basically, it just looks like you have inconsistiency in your tee shots and in your short putts. 3 missed short putts, it seems like in just the 5 holes I asked about. Probably more in the other holes too?

I'm not that great of a player, but I know where to look to fix my game. I guess I would just work on the driver + tee irons and getting a clean, repeating swing ingrained in your skull. Your bunker game looks like it needs work too...

Putts are easy enough to fix. Do short putting drills (such as putting 12 balls 3 feet away from the hole in all directions), and above all.. TAKE YOUR TIME! I rarely 3-putt now because I take my time with every putt.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
    • No! Is a large part of the human population selfish, apathetic and cuts corners in the name of self-preservation 'more than they would like to admit', yes. Degenerate, scum, etc?.. no!! Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
