Questions for anyone and everyone.

Club lie at setup. With the arms hanging naturally, is it sitting more toe up or flat? Does it make a difference in contact consistency? Irons versus woods?

Forward press. How much and with what clubs? This is a real source of inconsistency in my setup right now. Setting up pure vertical feels really weak. Setting up with too much forward press takes way too much loft off the club. Maybe just always keep the hands at the left thigh?

Thanks!

I've read (and I will try to find the article...it was regarding club fitting) that when you address the ball it is okay to have the toe of the club a little off the ground. When you swing the club into impact properly and the club shaft is bending (even a sand wedge shaft will bend a little) that bend causes the toe to point down a little, thus creating the flat lie you need at impact.

I realize this thread isn't about club fitting, but the point is that if your toe is a little off the ground at setup it's not that big of a deal and doesn't necessarily mean you are setting up incorrectly or need your lie angle adjusted.

Re: forward press...I bet you get many different answers here. I believe there should be forward press, certainly with the irons. Personally, mine is minimal. My hands are usually about even with the ball, making for just a slight press. To much and my wrists get all out of whack.

I have played with many very good players that do not use any forward press at all and some that use quite a bit. It's your position at impact that matters. If pressing (or not pressing) somehow gets you to a better impact position with your hands leading the clubhead at impact, then stick with it. Experiment to find what works best. I don't think there is a "correct" answer, in my humble opinion anyway.
