Yesterday I made three consecutive birdies (and nearly made four) for the first time ever. I'm not sure whether I've even made two in a row; if I have, I don't remember it, and I think I'd remember something like that.

I was playing a two-man scramble with my dad, but on these three holes we used all of my shots.

The first was a short par 4, 311 yards, slight dogleg right. All of these holes were playing straight downwind, and it was blowing at least 20 mph yesterday. I hit a hybrid off the tee to about 40 yards from the pin, a lob wedge (Dave Pelz's 9:00 swing with a 60° wedge) to about 8 or 10 feet and holed the putt.

Next was a 494-yard par 5, again downwind. Driver and hybrid put me just off the back side of the green. Chipped to about four feet and holed the putt.

Third was another short par 4, at 300 yards. I hit a low, stinging driver (not on purpose) which wound up near the bottom of a swale that runs across the fairway but with a good lie. Again I was about 40 yards out. I hit the same lob shot that I had two holes earlier with the same result: the ball stopped about 8-10 feet past the hole, and I holed the putt.

I should point out that I was putting first on all of these holes, so I didn't have the advantage of seeing my partner putt first. The only place that probably helped was with the chip shot on the par 5, where my dad played first, and I got see how the ball would react on the green before I hit my shot.

The hole following these three, I was on the green in regulation with another 10-12 foot look at birdie, but I missed the putt. My dad didn't.

I threw in another "by myself" birdie later in the round, just for good measure. It was a good day.

Fantastic. Memories for a lifetime. You know...I really wish I could play golf with my dad. He never had the chance to play.

    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
