I was playing a practice round yesterday and I hit an 8 iron approach from about 155yds out. As the ball came off the club I saw it tracking right for the flag. The closer it got the more intently I watched it, I figured it was going to be close. Then it hit the very top of the flag stick! It bounced up in the air and then landed 10 yards off the green. It was pretty funny. The 2 older gentlemen that I was playing with said they had never seen that before. Keep in mind I don't think this was a great shot becasue I wasnt trying to hit the top of the flag just a unique shot. Anybody ever done this?

ooh, get you! anyway no i have never seen this, i have seen the ball get caught in the actual flag and have had a slam dunk, but it would have been a good shot if it had missed the flag.

You know what, I actually i did a few weeks ago. Ironic that this thead came up. More precisely, i hit the actual flag on the stick. The flag caught the ball kind of like a lacrosse mitt and just dropped it strait down a couple of feet from the hole. Very cool. It would have went to the back of the green or maybe over it if the flag wasnt there..lol

Nope, I have seen good players bottle a good score in the last few holes by thinning chips...... that hit the flag and stop inches from the hole, how annoying!

Hmmm, that would be pretty annoying. Especially in matchplay!

I've never hit the top of the flag. But I've hit the flag once, near the bottom. It skited away off the green though.

i hit a shot that landed and stayed on top of the flagstick. had to take one putt to tap it off which landed an inch wide of the cup and another putt to then knock it in the hole after flagstick removed

on top of the flagstick? i seriously doubt that. a stick like 3cm wide aint gonna hold a ball at the top when its coming at high velocity, it would just bounce off.
Edit: yeah i agree with you jack, how much bull**** can you come up with?

Ganja's sense of humor is an acquired taste.

Hey, Ganja. How tough was it to take a stance on that first putt?

It makes me laugh how the story can be so ludicrous and people still take the time to consider if its possible.

Yes, a few times and it always launched the ball away from the hole.
It's a bad break.
Hitting the flag is the best break.

Its not always a bad break if it hits the stick. I hit a way to flat pitch once which would have gone over the green for sure - it hit the stick about 1.5m high and managed to end up somehow in the hole - the ball must have released his spin on the stick and went straight down - cant explain it otherwise...
