So just received my new Nike CCi irons today! Man I am so stoked to finaly get a nice set of irons after playing with the cheapo set of wilsons I got like 9 years ago! And another question...how many of the clubs should have a serial number on them when you purchase a set?

Driver - SQ SUMO2 9.5 stiff
3 Wood - SQ SUMO2 15* stiff
Hybrid SQ SUMO2 20* stiff
Irons - CCi steel stiff
Wedge - 56*Wedge - Knight 60*Putter - ITraxBall - platinum+Black but soon to be switching to pr0v1 SG 2.5

Congrats! What led to your decision on those irons?

I am still golfing with a bad set of Dick's Acuity irons. I can hit them straight but 5-9 they all travel about 150-160 yards - driver as well.

Test drove a Ping g-10 and loved it but who the heck has 700 bones for a set of irons with the price of fuel? So the local place said they can sell me the Pings one at a time and I replace them as I go along for about 88 a piece. I haven't heard much about the G10s and would like to. I may stop in there and see what else they would be willing to do like that as they also sell Callaway, Nike, Mizuno and others.

It's either that or a set of clones...

Well I like Nike products and I wanted a new set to replace my 8 year old beginer set. These are game improvment irons but people that hit dont find to much different between these and the forged. And now they just got discontinued so instead of paying $800, i paid $350 shipping included!!! Now I have to say that was the final deciding factor on getting these ones. Cant wait to hit them

Q?

If you guys were to replace your irons - one at a time or in pairs - where would you start?

I am thinking 7 and 6 then 8 and 9 then 5. Buy whatever wedges feel good, here and there.

I have to piece together a set as I can't afford to blow 300 at any one time - figure 160-200 every 2 weeks or so.

I bought my new set of irons and wedges 4-pw (TM tour burner irons and z groove 52, bent to 51, and 56) from my local range and instructor, custom fit, about 780 total. And i owe it all to the government stimulus check =D. IMO the right irons for you are ones you like to hit, feel good, and fit inside your budget. Don't listen to brand names or hype, just go out and hit them and see which in your budget range feel good, and it sounds like thats what you did, congrats on the new set!

In the bag:

I got my set of Wilson Staff Ci7 (4 - PW) irons last week and they are awesome. They are really flash looking clubs and they really are that good, I dont think I will need to change for another few years. I definately recommened them to anyone, and to all those who say they are a game improvement iron, you are well and truly wrong. They are mostly truly a players club.

Q?

Why not save up. If you can afford to spend 200 every 2 weeks, why not 300 in 3 weeks?

I am also considering the Ci7s and will be hitting them for the first time tomorrow. They are certainly getting good reviews in magazines and online. Hacker, I notice you also have the WS driver. How is that working out? I have read negative reports on their drivers...

Huh?? Why can't you wait 2 weeks until you have $320 to $400?

Also, you'll pay way more if you buy single irons as opposed to a set.

Thats not true... you can order any single club through an authorized dealer and the set will be broken down by iron price I always custom order irons, typically a forged iron will be between 120-135 per club

Golow,

I finally found an outlet in San Diego who has the Ci7s! I'm glad I waited to hit them before I got measured up and placed the order. These new Wilson Staff clubs look fantastic, but feel rough off the face (perhaps in tune with my rough swing

). At address, the Ci7s look fantastic - much better (IMHO) than the Titleists & Pings I also tested. The only club that compared in appearance was the Mizuno MP-60s (which felt too light in my hands). Off the club, however, the Ci7s did not compare to the AP1s. While I think Titleist has now made an ugly club (again only my opinion), they feel awesome and way more forgiving than the Ci7s. When hit well, they were simply amazing and are certainly worth the additional $$. I had hoped that the Ci7s would meet my needs, as I didn't really want to spent the $$ on AP1s, but I think that they are too good to pass up. Are there other opinions out there about the comparison between the Ci7s, AP1, G10s, Mizuno (MP-60/57s). I've pretty much made up my mind now to get measured up for AP1s. Thoughts/Opinions:

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
