I recently changed from the 10 finger to the interlocking grip and my right pinky finger is sore. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? It feels sore in the joints like it needs to pop.

It's normal if your a first time user of it. If it continues after a few weeks then your grip is incorrect.

When I make the grip I push my pinky all the way down so that the end of my pinky rests between the knuckles of my index and middle finger on my left hand.

It's normal. When I started using the Vardon grip my pinky was hurting. When I stopped using a left hand glove my left hand hurt a lot too.

(btw, consider Vardon grip + no glove for the ultimate grip )

Make sure you are gripping the club in the fingers of the right hand. An interlocking grip can have the side-effect of making your grip too much in your hands rather than in the fingers as it should be.

Excellent tip - thank you. I think I was doing exactly that.

Guys,
I posted about this subject within the past couple of months. As a new golfer I was using interlocking because that's what I remembered learning ages ago.

My pinky was getting very sore and I was waking up in the middle of the night and in the morning with trigger finger - a condition where the tendon that runs through your finger sticks. It was hard to bend my finger, and when it bent, it would suddenly click and bend - and then it would be stuck in the bent position. I would try to un-bend it, and it would click, and spring free.

This really worried me and I switched to the Vardon / overlapping grip. The transition to this grip was very easy - it took me less than a round of golf to get used to it, as a new golfer - and I am no longer having any issues with my finger. I would seriously consider switching your grip immediately if you are unable to relieve your pain while still using interlocking, or if your symptoms get worse.

I use the interlocking grip and have similar problems with my right pinky. The finger can be really sore after alot of golf, with pain when pushing the finger in a certain way. I will try to learn to use the Vardon grip, since this pain won't seem to go away...

I keep splitting my right pinky finger open on the right side of my nail. I use interlocking grip and this is a new problem for me. I never had this happen in 30+ yrs golfing. Any suggestions.
