for anyone who has been to a major, I would like to get a seat at the 18th grandstand tomorow. My question is, how early should i get there? when the gates open, or later?

As I post this, you're way, way, way too late.

A friend and I got there last year at 5:05am. The leaders weren't even teeing off for roughly eight hours. We were sixth.

if you're an Amex member, just spend the $ for the amex tent. you're
guaranteed food, seating (not grandstand but seating at 1 of the stands) and the amex dinner..which is pretty cool b/c ppl like Tiger are present and are doing their share of endorsing the brand. pretty cool thing..it's only like $1000 per ticket... but for grandstand seating...that's just a huge good luck. for any major..especially the us open where the audience was what? 55,000 on avg each day? that's just BANANAS. that's everyone inside of Shea Statium, the players and the staff. wow.

No - people who buy week-long passes are given a playoff ticket. They were selling for $20 to $50 on Craigslist last night, and some people were giving theirs away of course.
