Hi

I have continued to demo irons this week - in making a final decision. Would appreciate any recent experience with the AP1, MX-25 or MP-57. I am leaning towards the MX-25 with project X 5.5 shaft.

AP1's are an AMAZING club. easy to hit. they look sexy & they've got great feel. the MX series is the improvement set and the MP is supposed to be the perfect mix b/t a blade and a cavity back. they're a lot easier to hit than the MP 60's but a lot harder to hit than the MX series. I'd say if you hit the MX clean, choose those. But you have to admit, the AP1's are a great looking club.

I demoed the AP1's, AP2's, and the MX-25's. At least I think the Mizunos were the MX25, not 100% sure though.

I liked the Mizuno's a lot, but they were heavy to the point I found it distracting. I hit the Titleists better and was more comfortable with them.

I wound up going with the AP1's and love them. They have a great feel, which was important to me because I'm learning the game and want feedback so I can improve. They're pretty forgiving, at least in comparison to the blades I was learning on before. And my instructor took a few swings and found them to be pretty workable for a game-improvement iron.

I can't really comment on the Mizunos since I've never played them. However, I've had my AP-1's for about two months now (and many rounds) and all I can say is, the only thing I'd trade them for would be the AP-2's. Absolutely love them. Very, very happy.

Of course if I did get the AP-2's I'd 1) need a little more game and 2) probably be divorced.

I have both the AP1's and the MP-57's. My thoughts on the AP1's are here .

I hope to have the MP-57 review done by the end of the month but for me, I liked the 57's more. The AP1's were more forgiving and between the High Launch shaft and stronger lofts, the ball seemingly goes forever. In the end however, I liked the feedback and workability of the 57's more.

I have the MX-25's and definitely reccomend them. I haven't played the other clubs you're looking at, so I can't compare them, but I love my MX-25's. They are very forgiving, but when you get it on the sweet spot it's so smooth you can barely feel the ball hitting the club.

tryed out the mp57 today, really, really didnt liek em.

have not hit the ap1, but if there anything like the ap2, definetly buy them. They are amazing sticks.

however, i would take the mx25's. they are pretty responsive, can be worked, but still bail you out of serious trouble.

Tried both the AP1's and the MP-57's (today actually). Used 6 irons on both, but the MP-57's had Project X 5.5 shafts and the AP1's had standard True Temper Gold shafts - R flex. I was hitting them at my local golf shops indoor simulator under 0 wind, sea level conditions.

I hit about 20 balls with each club and the Mizuno's were consistently 8-9yds longer at around 168-172 yds with the AP1's at about 160-164yds).

The AP1's trajectory seemed a little too high for my liking. But shafts probably played a big part in that.

Summary:
Distance: MP-57
Trajectory: MP-57
Looks: MP-57
Feel: MP-57
Forgiveness: AP1
Coolness Factor: AP1

Overall both very good clubs. But I will probably be picking up the Mizuno's on ebay if I can get a good deal. I'm sold.

The AP1's are COMPLETELY different than the MP-57's IMHO. To be blunt, the MP 57 is for the lower handicap player..I'd say 0-10..whereas the AP1's are for the 10-20's..just being honest guys.

I would tend to agree with that as well.

Mav, do you really think they should count out clubs to test b/c of handicap?

Last year when I was demo'ing clubs from switching out of my old a** x-16's that i learned how to play with at the top of '07, I hit the mp-60's the best. We did a blind test. from setup , take away, impact and finish, the 60's felt better than a full cavity back club for me. As soon as I switched, I shot my 1st round in the 70's when I was mid 80's to low 90's with a low 80's round here and there.. I mean granted, I learned a lot about the game from the time that I got the club to present, but I'm currently a 12 that plays the 60's. I know some clubs are easier to hit...but from my experience, the club that was supposed to be harder to hit and work ended up being the right club for me (at least I think so). I just like to hear comments about it b/c people say a blade is more for a lower handicap...but i've always thought whatever felt best, gave a more consistent shot & ball striking all around.

I don't think he was saying that. I think he was suggesting that the clubs are targeted at vastly different kinds of golfers.

They are. And that makes comparing them just a bit silly.

Precisely..and yes, I just can't give confidence to a 30+ index golfer reviewing/analyzing a set of MP57/60's/blades and the like. It's like asking an everyday driver how he likes the Ferrari F1..sure he'll say it goes fast..but isn't that about it?

You on the other hand are a 12 playing in the 60's..which seem more credible.

I love my MP-57's but they are certainly more of a players club than the other two options. You really have to hit them solid which after about five rounds I'm really starting to do.

I've never hit the other two but they look really nice. It's really what you want. Your going to get a bit more forgivness in the other choices compared to the 57's.

the F1's a good thing to say.... but when I started with the mp60's last year, I was about a 20 handicap. I've just been fortunate enough to get out 3 - 4 times a week to play and learn in the past 2 years I've been playing to get the handicap down with consistent rounds...

I DID learn on cavity back clubs...then when i thought it was time for me to buy my own clubs, I went out and tested the clubs..but I did start with the 60's when I was about a 20. when I got it down to 13, I changed the shafts to get the flight i wanted....and i couldn't be any happier with my club choice (although the 67's are extremely sexy!) but your point is dually noted. it is kind of hard to get progressively better with more of a player's club than a starter set... but I liked it b/c when I made a bad swing, the clubs let me know that the result was ok..but it wasn't a good swing...and that's what I love about them.
