Not sure where im going to play.
Its for a destination wedding. But in the dead cold of February here, im playing.

Do i rent clubs or worry about the cost of traveling with them?

My general rule for golf travel is this: if I am going to be playing at least 2+ rounds of serious golf I will take my gear. If I travel and just want to play if I have the time, I will rent. Most courses in a tourist area will typically have decent rentals. Just check for availability in advance.

I went to Jamaica a couple of years ago on a company trip. I don't think I would even want to take my clubs there unless I knew for sure I could get them transported with ease once I hit the ground. It is not the easiest place to go to with a bunch of luggage. If you are going to play, take your golf shoes though. It tends to rain a little about every day, so any course you go to would probably be a little wet.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Where are you playing in Jamaica? A good place to play is the Wyndham Hotel course in Montego Bay. The course is in really good shape, you get a caddie and the equipment rentals are better than average.

we had our honeymoon in Jamaica at a Sandals resort. I took my clubs and my wife rented. She was able to rent some Callaways so was happy enough. We did play 4 rounds but I'm not sure the course was really in good enough condition to warrant the stress of lugging my clubs around. If you have definite plans to play one of the better courses then you'll probably want your own gear, otherwise get the rentals and suck it up

Time flies. Leaving in 16 days.

Im going to rent. Only playing twice so its not worth the hassle. And i cant say i have been to the range that often this offseason so no matter what i play with it wont be pretty. But fun, im sure.

I get to travel some on business. I was in Europe last fall and played 4 times at 4 different courses. Twice I paid for rentals and twice I was given rentals no charge. I have also run into this several times in the states in the last year. Even saw one course advertise free rentals to players from out-of-state.

Be sure to pack your golf shoes, a couple of gloves, a dozen balls and just a few tees. You don't want have to buy this stuff at resort prices. Enjoy.

Clean your shoes thoroughly before you fly. The fertilizers on golf courses (nitrates) will guarantee that they'll be inspected at the airports.

Drink a ton of Red Stripe.

    • Three women were playing on the fourteenth hole, walking up to the green when out of the bushes come a very well endowed masked naked man running across the green in front of them, into the bushes on the other side.   The first lady gasped and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The second lady sighed and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The third lady said, "That wasn't anyone from THIS Club!"

    • Played 9 yesterday at Cape Ann in Essex, MA. Played awful with maybe 4 really good shots but the course is so beautiful being right on the water it's hard to be to upset. I haven't practiced in forever so I'll need to get going on that.  Been better getting to the gym since I've been out here in NH. I came out from Minnesota for my well being so I figured I should be working on just that. Still hovering around 226 which surprises me as my sister in law feeds me quite well. Excited to be back east for the Celtics coronation. Go Celts!!!
