Has anyone messed around with their grip size to see what affect it may have? Tried a buddies over sized grips last wknd and they seemed very comfy and easier to hold than my own regular winns.
Just wondered if this was just the placebo effect where anything that's different must be better? My natural shot is straight to a slight fade.

Thanks .. J

I used to have an over size chamois grip on my driver (got it that way), and I recently got a standard sized Taylormade grip. Works better for me, as it gives me leverage and more wrist action. I found I was relying on the arms much more with my larger chamois, which really threw off my swing.

I'm a somewhat small framed guy, and my hands are fairly slim. I wear a medium glove. I moved to the Golfpride DD2 midsize grip a little over a year ago and it actually made a big difference in my game. I feel much more in control of the club and it seems like I have better 'feel' for how the club head is positioning. Plus, for me, they are a lot more comfortable in my hands.

I'm sure it really comes down to a personal preference thing, but now that I've become so used to them, I wouldn't switch back. I even build my putter grips up between 1/16 - 1/8 ".

Spyder

I'm a tall guy with a large palm area. My set of clubs with regular grips give me blisters and often slip the clubface open. My other set with larger grips I have no such problem.

You leave me no choice (too tempting not to)!!!

Sorry guys, but this is a golf forum. All this talk of grip sizes, less wrist action, slim hands, large palms, blisters, and personal preference has me a bit perplexed. The most interesting line comes from Meeks7, who stated "The bigger the grip i found you have less wrist action but its all a personal feel thing." C'mon now...you left so open to comment on man.
I think you guys were looking for the other site, sandtramp.com or something like that (I have no idea if that even exists and with me being work, im not gonna even try due to monitoring of the network).

Hope that made ya laugh a bit

How important is to have a uniform grip size? I've been buying my clubs 'a la carte' and they have different size grips. The irons don't match the woods/hybrids.

Thanks,
Charles

unfortunately the biggest miss-conception is how universally every little thing is involved, and connect to each other during golf. For instance. People will buy a driver and not like it, not realizing its actually a good driver club head, eventually buying another driver. When the whole problem could easily be what majority feels is the most important part of golf equipment. The driver shaft.

I'm lucky though, because I was an athlete (basketball all my life and some soccer in high school) all through high school and in college and kind of have an ability to feel when something just isn't right and after my recent swing plane fix its been my grips. I played 3 days straight and started to get some intense blisters on the left palm on my hand in line with my middle and ring finger. and the heel palm. I knew i needed grip change on my new irons so i did some researching literally yesterday. Grips TOO big tend to push shots while grips TOO small tend to pull or shoot shots strait left. I had both these problems but knew i needed a bigger grip. my fairway woods have golf pride jumbo grips while my irons have lamkin crosslines Standards. I tend to push shots right with my woods, and pull or even just shoot straight left with my irons. Both of which apply to what happens when you have a grip too big or too small.

Also, my grip is NOT an interlock grip where the pinky and opposite index cross.its more overlap which is a completely different story. I forgot what that grip is called but i learned it from the creator of the tour striker. whose also a well known golf pro prior to that wonderful golf invention. neither here nor there.

So in other words, when it comes to little things like a grip change. Most of the decisions should be made on the course. Are you getting blisters,  are your shots hooking or slicing in between good shots, and while this happens are you noticing space in between your hand and the grip (like i did) that technically shouldn't be there. If you have a bigger grip and are having a hard time feeling the club head on the other end maybe you need a smaller grip.

But then this is when golf gets "universally involved" in every part of equipment. If you buy clubs off the rack but regrip them to the PROPER hand size and are still having that "club head too light" feeling, it could be easily that you have too stiff of a shaft flex and just simply can't flex the club properly at the top of your swing. OR even more finicky, you need a stiff flex but should switch from an 110 grams shaft to 100 grams, or even 95 grams for that matter.

SOOO i'll end with an interesting thought, some of the older players that are "traditional" (hate the obnoxiously big driver era) and dont like all the technology and numbers and gargin involved with golf, say all of it is ruining what golf originally was. That technology is just making golf more complicated and i agree...somewhat.  in fact with all these shaft options, all these companies, all these ways to make your very own set of clubs built just for you, it brings more people to the game of golf. And THAT is what everyone should want right? I know its what i want.

Maybe i should've done an article instead of a forum post haha

I wear a XXL glove and can pickup a basketball simply by reaching down with one hand and picking it up.  I use jumbo grips because regular grips feel like a pencil in my hands and I don't like it.  That's about the extent of my analysis on grip size.
