I am going to be in Laguna Beach on vacation late next month and I want to play a round of golf while I am out there.

Does anyone know of some nice courses I can play that are close to Laguna or within an hour drive?

well there's Pelican Hill, Monarch Beach, Strawberry Farms, Oak Creek, Talega....all nice courses within an hour's drive. I think Monarch is crazy overpriced for the $200+ green fee, for a par 70 course (could be 71). Oak creek is about $150 on the weekend and really nice and very well kept. Pelican is really nice also but I don't know what reguar rate is there (guest rate is $140), ocean views on a lot of holes.

Matters how hard a course you want and how much you're willing to spend.

San Clemente Muni is really good for the price is you're looking to spend less ($55, weekend rate).

Pelican Hill is over $250/round. San Clemente Muni would be great if you want to play mid week.

I would also recommend Arroyo Trabuco...which is pretty close, just take PCH to Crown Valley Pkwy and go left, take the 5 to Avery and go inland until you hit the course. It's going to be the same quality as the others mentioned above without the over 100 price tag. All the course mentioned above are north of $100.

There is a little 9 hole course in Laguna that is a fun and pretty cheap, but it's worth what you are paying. If you want to go an hour or so, there are a ton of other options. Most are going to be expensive though. From Laguna, it may only take about an hour to get to Torrey Pines in reality. That would be better than playing any of the OC courses.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I will more than likely be playing during the week, Monday-Thursday. I probably don't want to pay more than $100 unless the course has a Torrey Pines type reputation. A course on the ocean would be absolutely awesome considering I mainly play desert courses here in Phoenix.

Thanks for your help.

Torrey Pines is well over $200 after Green Fee, Cart Fee, Advance Reservation Fee.

if your index is really 36 you aren't going to have a good time golfing there. It is a hard course, South that is.

San Clemente Muni is prolly your best bet then, for the price range you want, unless you can get on to Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, that's worth the drive in traffic.

it's hard to get on there, and expect a 5-6 hr round during the week. really...
