If any of you play these golf balls, do you experience the cover wearing very quickly during a round of golf? I played 9 holes with this ball and it looks terrible compared to a big bertha i played 18 holes with. I don't seem to gain anything with the HX hot either.

I too found that the cover was not very durable.. after one full wedge, and a chip, i had two very big scratch areas, and it was to the point of no play after 3, maybe 4 holes.

Bad ball? maybe, but i didnt see a whole lot of difference between this and the hx hot.

The tour ix? now theres a nice ball.. kudos cally.

In using this ball my past couple rounds I have also discovered that the cover has not held up as well as I would have liked. At the same time I have been playing my best golf all year since putting it in play so I am not giving it up yet. I was playing this ball with the Cleveland CG14 with the Zip groove sand wedge, and that wedge tore this ball apart, so I have went back to the TaylorMade rac that I couldn't get rid of.

I am hoping for next year they re-design the cover to be a little more durable.

I've played a dozen Big Berthas and a dozen HX Hot Bites over the past couple of months.

The Big Berthas were a pleasant find. I'd buy them again. Good feel and decent spin. Putted very well for me. Durability is okay.

The HX Hot Bites were fair. I'd probably not buy them again. For the money, I'd rather buy NXT Tour balls. Spin was good and overall the ball did fine but I agree the covers chewed up quickly with my irons. I generally do not take balls out of play for wear as I most often loose them way before they are too worn. Such was not the case with these. I guess this is the price you pay for getting the higher spin.

Like I said...for the money, I'll stick with NXT Tour. I'm going to be trying some Bridgestone E5+s this week. They were highly recomended by a buddy. I hope they work well...sure would be a lower cost alternative to the other two.

Yeah, the Hot Bite is not very durable, but it has very nice spin on chips and partial wedges. If you don't notice any difference in that area compared to the Big Bertha balls you probably just aren't making consistently solid contact with your wedges. No reason to pay $10 more per dozen balls if you don't see any advantage.

You should give the Top Flite Gamer a try. It's very similar to the Hot Bite. They are both 3 piece and made by Callaway, the only difference is a slightly different cover. For me, the Gamer is longer than the Hot Bite and more durable, but spins a bit less. It sells for $20/dozen - about the same as the Big Berthas and may prove to be closer to what you are looking for.

I golf atleast once a week and once golf season starts for school every single day. I average a score in the 40's. Do you think the tour i or ix is a good ball to play. I want some spin on the greens. Does this ball hold up and is really worth the price?

I think you need to try a few. If you are averaging in the 40s, lets say 45 for argument sake, you are playing bogey golf. But judging by what else you said, I am guessing you are still a little young. I wouldnt spend that much on balls. Try some of the balls in the $20-25 range per dozen. See what you like. I think a solid 3 piece ball will play nicely.

that tour ball scuffs up really easily too.... maybe one round for me. if you want a ball that has good feel as in a softer feel and plays mulitply rounds, try the callaway big bertha soft blue... has good spin, long distance and is under 15.00 doz. and you can spin it too...

HX Hot Bite - the only ball I have ever WANTED to lose!

These scuff up so bad - stick a 3/4 wedge onto one and its ripped to shreds. My last round I just went nuts with them - taking on stupid water carries and if it didn't make it, no loss. It would have become a never used practice ball after 3 holes anyway.

Will NEVER buy these again.

Will be going back to NXT Tours, but someone suggested the new PTS Carry/Roll as the greens here in Dubai are soft so don't need the same amount of spin. They are cheaper, and more durable for sure. Also, less $$$. Just another 6 or so Callaways to send to a watery grave.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
