La Costa: Crap Conditions?

I played at La Costa (north course) recently, and WOW, I was surprised at the conditions. It's no wonder the PGA Tour doesn't go there anymore.

Mud everywhere, and oftentimes 20 yards from browning, cracking turf that had sprinklers going. Bumpy greens. Thin, sparse patches of rough here and there.

Couldn't exactly say the design was incredibly interesting, either, or memorable.

Anyone else played there and have a differing point of view? I would think I'd have caught it at a good time of year, but maybe not.

I've never played, but the members at my club have had the same review.

I played there 2 years ago and it was the same. I was definitely disappointed with the conditions and the overall layout.

I played there a few years ago (I think it was the last year of the match play tournament there). I hadn't been playing for too long at the time so as you can guess, my score was less than thrilling. But I don't really remember any glaring problems with the conditions at the time. Seemed to me to be a pretty normal course. Maybe now that the tournament has left, they don't keep it up as well as they used to? I don't know.
