Im from Northern Phoenix and the courses near me (500 club, Legend at Arrowhead) are in terrible shape. Greens are dried out and bumpy as can be. Any golfers up here recommend any courses in good shape? Thanks

I love to hate this damn game.

My observation is that June is a rough month, as the rye dies off and the bermuda takes over, the hot and dry conditions create a challenge. As July comes along and more humidity, the conditions improve. I always thought the best conditions are in Aug/Sept up until they tear it up for the overseed.

Also this time of year is time for aerification, so it's always good to call and find out when they are doing that. Usually 4 weeks after punching until they are starting to roll true again.

Hang in there, it'll get better!

I played The Phoenecian Resort courses three straight days in August two years ago, and it was AMAZING. It's Phoenix/Scottsdale, and wasn't cheap, but wow. Great time.

    • Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
