The Tour i by Callaway is a great golf ball.

It's a 4-piece ball, just like the Tour ix but it performs at a much higher level around the greens and similarly off the tee.

The Tour i seems to launch higher in the air on all shots and have a much more poignant drop from the sky than the tour ix. It also performs as close to a ballata ball around the greens than anything else i've tried. It's an extremely well rounded, nicely performing ball: i would say just as good if not better than the Titleist Pro V1.

It's got more technology than the Pro V1 does in it and i think if people gave it a shot, they would enjoy it more.

My advice to Titleist, which btw, is my favorite golf company : Come out with your next generation of balls ASAP. This new Callaway Tour i is going to provide some real competition for you. You're going to need to step it up this autumn when you come out with your new ball models.

COuldnt agree more.

I am playing the tour ix right now, and the i series is much like the taylormade series, if they can gain any momentum, they are easily just as good of balls as pro v's.

What kind of statement is that? And how do you figure whether something has "more" technology? Plus, how the technology performs mattered last time I checked, now "how much" is in there.

E,

What i mean about more technology is the fact that they've got 4 pieces, that's all. The Pro V1 has 3. 4 = more in my book.

I just want Titleist to come out with a new ball, that's all. (that rhymed). My post was only to encourage them to do so as i love my pro v1!

Are you aware of the fact that the Pro V1x is a four-piece ball? Titleist has the technology to make a four-piece ball, so clearly they decided that the Pro V1 should be three pieces because that's what suits THAT particular ball best.

It's cool you like another ball, and fine, but at least have valid reasons for it. "More pieces" alone doesn't make a better golf ball. And as for a new Titleist golf ball, I believe they've said as part of their ongoing trial that they expect to replace the current Pro V1/V1x in 2009 (spring).

E,

Sorry, but that's an uneducated comment. Having more layers in a ball does not constitute having more technology.

Iacas is absolutely right. You need to revise your book a little and understand more about the ball manufacturing process. Golf Magazine had a good article a year ago or so on this.

I too, am going to give the Tour i a try... The HX balls always would have me going back to Pro V1's and ProV1x's. (I use both depending on conditions...)

let me put it this way (mine came in the mail on thursday)

par 5 today (1st time ever using the ball) dog right drive positioned perfectly, 250 left... 3 wood hit on the screws, ball carries to the green and holds. The ball was 2 ft from the ball mark (one the largest ball marks Ive ever seen) pin high 6 ft

knocked it in for eagle! I'm going to use these balls!

I wish Callaway and other OEMs (Nike, Callaway, Bridgestone, etc) who are trying to dethrone the ProV1 would give away (or maybe charge a nominal amount for) 2 ball sleeves of their premium balls instead of just their low and mid-end balls.

I refuse to buy a dozen balls at $45-$50 just to find out if they as good as the Pro V1s at the same price. And I'm not going to pay even more (per ball) for a single sleeve at the pro shop. I'd rather put that money toward a box of balls I already know that I like.

Yeah, I agree totally. I was lucky enough to get a 2 pack of these when they were at my club, but otherwise, I dont want to spend $45 to "see if I like somthing"

the 6 balls for free was a delight, took about 6 weeks but hey... free

I have started using these balls and shot a score of 74 on a par 70, my best score ever.(I know that this is probably not due to the ball)
I have found that the spin off the tee is a lot lower than Pro-V1's, but around the greens they stop just as well, and come down on a much steeper angle.
They have a much softer feel off the putter and wedges than the HX tour 56 did, too.

Great ball.

So I've been away from my computer for about 10 days on vacation and just today I'm getting around to reading some of the forum topics that have come up since I've been gone. Came across this one and as one of the other posters alluded too I thought "oh yeah...I sent away for those free balls myself".

Well guess what comes in the mail today! Can't wait to get out and hit them. I was a big fan of the HX Tour so I'm hoping these are even better. Honestly I was shocked that I received 2 sleeves. I don't remember that far back as to what the offer said (age thing creeping up on me I guess) and I was expecting a 2-ball sample pack. But no...got two full sleeves packed in a very nice black Callaway box (that of course the Post Office basically destroyed).

WHAT'S IN MY BAG

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
