Has anyone had any experience? They got a gold rating on the 2008 hot list and they're 3 piece with some good technology in them. Some have compared it to a Pro V1 and if that's the case, for $20 a dozen, i might just take a look.

The rep was at my club a few weeks back. They gave me a 2 pack sampler, and I am going to play them Monday. I will let you know.

I would be interested in your opinion after you play them.

I love the Wilson Pro Staff Zip. It is my ball of choice this season except in colder weather when I hit the Wilson Pro Staff Fifty. The Zip carries well and I have added up to 15+ yards on my drives. I like the feel, although it is not quite as soft as the Fifty. It also checks well on the green. Can't beat Wilson balls for the price.

Would you say the Zip spins less than the Fifty?

I haven't noticed that the Zip spins less. It is a little harder than the Fifty which is a very soft ball. I have noticed the difference putting and added distance with the Zip.

I play the fifties quite often. For the money you can't touch 'em, in my opinion. The Zips play nice too, a little longer, a little less spin. I play in colder weather quite a bit and the 50's have worked out a little better for me.

I play Nike platinum for league or handicap rounds, otherwise its 50's or zips.

I've also been playing the Zips and 50/50s now that Wilson stopped making the PX3. The 50s are very soft and don't last as long as the Zip. After my stash of Px3s is gone, I'll be probably sticking with the Zips. The Zips aren't quite as long off the tee as the harder Px3s but the softness around the green makes up for it.

So I got a chance to play the 2 ball pack of the zip today. I came off the course with mixed feelings. I thought these balls were incredibly soft. Softer than the NXT Tours. Maybe as soft as Pro V1s. On the course I noticed, that I hit them similar to the NXTs, but not quite as far. maybe 3-5 yards shorter with short irons. I was alone this morning, so I was playing 2 balls, since nobody else was out there. I really noticed the drop off in distance between the balls when I was on the tee. Around the greens they had nice feel, and I could get the ball to bite and spin back with any of my wedges. The problem arose with the cover. These covers were like the old Balata covers from years ago. I was tearing the cover right off the ball. I dont really do this with Pro V1s and definately dont with my NXTs. I feel as though the cover is really soft, but you still dont get the feel as with the other balls mentioned.
All in all, I think the ball is good solid alternative, but the durability is the question for me. For the money, they are tough to beat though.

One quick follow up. Although the durability was an issue for me. Both balls lasted the entire 18 (didnt lose either for once...lol). None of the cover issues were enough to stop using them.

I too play Wilson Staff Balls, primarily the 50 and Tx4. I did a bit of research, and it seems the 50 is an improved version of the Dx2 (2-piece). The Zip is an improved Px3 (3-piece) and the new Tx4 for (2008) is the same ball from last year + new graphics and packaging.

That said, the 50 is quite soft compared to the Tx4. I'm not a great ball striker, however around the green the Tx4 is my ball of choice. The 50 is a pretty average ball, nothing spectacular....you get what you pay for. I haven't had a chance to play the Zip, although I presume it's somewhere between the two in terms of performance. Gotta love Wilson's flat-head dimples!

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
