I just replaced my driver this year with a Hibore XL... Its a decent club but after alot of effort trying to convince myself that it is the one for me I have decided to look for a new one. I actually went back to using my old driver (Mizuno MP-001).

Anyone have any suggestions for a more traditional driver with a more traditional sized head. I would like a 460cc but I just cant get used to the size of them or havent found one that is appeasing.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I thought the same thing, and then I tried both the Cobra and the Nike. Both changed my game. Both the forgiveness and the straightness of the club has helped immensely.

Titleist 905R is a traditional looking club @ 460cc. Doesn't seem that big when you are over it. Can pick one up reasonably cheap too!

3 WOOD: Callaway 3-Deep 13*

I feel the same way about the HiBOre fw woods I have, nice and good, but not quite for me.
I am on a driver hunt too!
I tried the Cobras yesterday, ugh. The Mizuno F560 was great on the launch monitor! I was hitting it straight and consistently 25 yards more than my current TM r7 460.
I am seriosuly considering getting one, but decided to try the FT-i and FT5 before I make my mind up.
I might gve the newest Sumo a try as well.

If you like your old Mizuno, you might want to check our their new one, the MP-600. Its 460cc's with a nice clean and round look at address, and if you like the moveable weight stuff then it's got that too.

Go for a Tour Edge Exotics!!
This is the greatest Driver i have ever used.......PERIOD!
It's ultra lightweight head produces greater clubhead speed with just the most amazing explosive sound at impact.
You get yourself the right shaft option and you will pump drives down the middle all day long.
I make a mockery of people with Ping's, Callaways, TaylorMade's just to mention a few.
I'm no spokesoman for Tour Edge but this will out drive anything!!!

My Weapons:
Driver: Tour Edge Exotics 9* (Fuji High Launch Stiff)
3 Wood: MDGolf Blackhawk (Prolite Stiff)
20* Hybrid: Maxfli Redeemer (High Launch Reg)
Irons (3-PW): Ben Hogan BH-5 (Apex shafts Reg)Wedges: 58* Progen (True Temper Reg) 60* MDGolf Superstrong (True Temper Reg)Putter:...

This is the driver I demo'd recently, and I didnt have the same feelings. I thought it was "not for me". Glad you like it though.

You might try the Ping G10. It's got the look of a traditional driver and I believe its one of the more forgiving drivers out there as well as having a great sound of the tee! Good Luck!

I recently found *the* driver for me. It's a Mactec NVG2. They're on sale at Golf Galaxy for $99.99 (marked down from $299.99). I was skeptical at first but read the reviews (especially the one here at The Sand Trap) and decided to try it out. I'm driving the ball longer and straighter than I ever have in my whole life. You owe it to yourself to demo one of these. In my case it 99 bucks well spent.

In the Bag:
Driver: Cleveland Launcher Ultralight XL 270

FW: Taylor Made 300 17 degree
3-PW: Mizuno MX-23

AW: Mizuno TP-T11 52/07 (Bent to 50)
SW: Mizuno TP-T11 56/10

LW: Mizuno TP-T11 60/05

Putter: Original Ping Zing

Ball: Wilson Staff FG Tour

r7 425 (TP if you want a slightly open face) is a great deal at $150 on ebay, more if you want an exotic shaft but the stock REAX shafts are pretty good. Or you can try the 905R, which I have been using but recently switched to the R7 because I wanted to try out the MWT and a slightly smaller head. Both are great drivers and you can't go wrong with either.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
