Well I have been playing with my dad's Callaway X-20's for a week or so and already shot a new low, 86. Decent I guess for just really getting into golf this summer.

But now I have decided I can't use his irons anymore (even though he never plays and is just learning ) and need to get a new set for myself, I had currently been using Nike CPR irons.

Well I love the X-20's but had been doing some research andfound that the 08 Big Bertha's are even more forgiving and even better game improvement irons which I found to just suck me in. So now I am drawn to the BB's and have found a few sets for decent prices on ebay.

BUT now I found a set of New NIke CCI's listed on Craigslist for $300. I never looked into these too much but from what I can tell this is a very good price. I read some reviews and they seem to be average irons but nothing too special, does anyone here have any personal experience with these irons?

I hope to make my purchase soon but I don't want to rush it and buy something off impulse. I have been golfing since I was about 12 but never seriously. Last summer I played a fair amount and got down to about a 98-102 average. Now I am low 90's and shot in the mid 80's last time I played. My skill level is improving and I am looking for irons to help me continue this.

Go w/ the CCI irons my friend. I have been shooting them for over a month now and they are awesome. I love them. And 300 for them is a good price. Also, I have seen mixed reviews on them but remember, many guys on tour are using these clubs, so I wouldn't say they are too bad.

The CCi's are a great deal on TGW. I would pick them up asap.

CCi's is what I would recommend, I've heard good things from the people I know that have them.

plus i think the Big Bertha's would be too much of a game improvement club for you, as in you don't seem to need their benefits.

Well like I said I never put much thought into the CCi's but it seems I should.

Demo both sets and see for yourself.

The Big Berthas are easy to hit.

If you are confident of your ball striking and want to work the ball, then the CCI is worthy of consideration.

I was at that point last year where I considered some blades - where I was hitting them well. I was even able to draw and fade, at will. Unfortunately, I had developed the $hank$ for several months and had setbacks in the game. I am now back onto the road to recovery but I opted for Super game improvements given my limits on practice time.

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
